What is the idea of making the map in World 8 part 3 covered in black ????
I think they wanted to make it dark. And you couldn't see what were the next worlds you were going to do.
Isn't the world 8 in Mario 3 called "Dark Land"? I think that answers your question!

Mine is the Japanese version
The Japanese and US PRG0 version have the same names for the worlds. The US PRG1 has the same names as the European version
