Title: Just picked one up!
Post by: Green_Thunder on June 19, 2011, 04:44:05 am
 :diskkun:

Hi!

I've been in Japan for like... five days now (I'm hear on business) and I'm VERY pleased to see that old games are super inexpensive. From what I've seen so far, Famicom games go for around 200 yen (aprx $2 us) Super Famicom goes for about 400 yen and Sega Saturn goes for 100 yen and so on.

However, I was able to find myself a Famicom and Famicom disk system, all for under 6 us. My problem is that both of them had no cords but from what I saw from the back of the famicom, it could take the standard US NES cords. So after putting them in, I wasn't entirly suprised when I couldn't seem to get it to work. So my simple question is: Do I need Famicom cords or is the system just not functional? I really wanna sink my teeth in the original Final Fantasy II and Fire Emblem I bought with it!  Thanks! :mario:

You JUST made the BIGGEST mistake. Plugging AC (NES) into a DC (Famicom). The fuse may have blown. You may need to replace it.

Well... What about the AV cord? Can I still use that one?

You can reuse everything except the console. Some members are better than me to repair system. Maybe it still works but I doubt.

Fancy picking up a disk system for me at that price ;)

Original megadrive power pack is what i've been using, it has the negative pole in centre and positive outer.

Megedrive 2 power pack is a no no as the poles are reverse, posative centre negative outer.

Chances are you might have fried the power regulator, get ya self a power pack first and go from there :)

If you are still in Japan of course you can probably find another Famicom for 6 bucks no problem.  I hope that is the case:)

About the prices, I think in general Super Famicom games actually usually sell for cheaper than Famicom ones.  There just seems much more of an oversupply of them compared to Famicom carts.

Also, in addition to what has been said above, the FDS uses completely different cables from the Famicom or the NES.  If you can get to some used game shops look around to see if they have a junk section with cords and cables, you might find what you need in there.

Good luck.

LOL.

I've been a gamer/collector my whole life! ;)
I know I probably set a lot of people off as a newbee and I admit I should have done some homework before acting BUT you surly understand my excitment, no? It's not everyday you find a Famicom for three bucks!

I'm well seasoned in everything EXCEPT the japanese equivalents(Although, I'm very familiar  with the Jap Saturn)
Hell, I JUST figured out the Disk system is an add-on after noticing it didn't have any controller ports! ;D
