Title: Third Party Controllers
Post by: Utremi on July 03, 2011, 02:47:48 pm
I've been looking for some more SNES/Super Famicom controllers lately, and I've only come across used first party units and third party gamepads with terrible reviews. I find it hard to believe that there is zero support for third party gamepads for the NES and SNES. I've also seen online tutorials for converting old gamepads to USB outputs, which pisses me off. So, I ask the question: are there any reliable aftermarket gamepads for old systems?

No but you can use the parts from knockoff controllers to rebuild your original ones, for example the rubber domes which are the first things to wear out, just swap them and your controller will feel like new!

Indeed, I have a massive stockpile of rubber domes for NES/Famicom controllers.

Bummer. It's a good thing I don't get mad at my games. Thanks for the feedback, I'll keep an eye out for cheap knockoffs to part should the fateful day ever come..

There are an assortment of aftermarket SFC/SNES controllers that were released in the early-to-late 1990s. This includes standard joypads, joysticks, multifunction joypads and joysticks, programmable devices, arcade-quality joysticks and unusual stuff, such as the Hori Super Gameboy controller.

I'm not sure what you want here... If you want newly-made stuff, then forget it: All of the controllers made in China for SFC cloes are pure garbage.

On the other hand, if you want New-Old-Stock or refurbished controllers, either Nintendo-factor or third-party, then you have a fairly decent selection available to you. In fact, I think you can still order NOS controllers from Nintendo Co., Ltd for the Super Famicom. They still make them on occasion, and made those Wii SFC controllers a couple years ago for their club members.  :bomb:
