Title: Paper recommendations for repro famicom label making
Post by: famiac on February 20, 2012, 07:17:48 pm
What type of paper should be used when making a reproduction famicom game label?

Give specifics please and tell where the paper can be purchased.

thanks!

I use simple (cheap) adhesive paper (adhesive blank labels 210x297mm - Agipa) and then slap thick transparent adhesive foil (a bit expensive - Self adhesive laminating sheets - Fellowes) over it. So I can print on any printer. The foil changes the colour tone a bit, works splendidly!

extra glossy sticker paper. I think its sometimes advertised as "photo stickers" paper. It looks the closest to the real deal I think.

Some people just use regular paper, glue it down, then cut out a piece of clear packing tape and lay it over top. I think this way is terrible as it can cause bubbles, yellowing, etc....

basically, you pretty much will have to find your own technique that best suits your tastes.

I like to use photo paper & thick packing tape. It takes practice to get it right without having bubbling, but I have down to a science! ;D
I find gluing it down with a photo glue stick is easier in that you can adjust it before it dries.

Whatever paper you use is going to feel like paper; the laminate (or packing tape, or whatever seal you use) is what makes it feel smooth.
