Title: Powerpak + Famicom
Post by: chazbc24 on March 01, 2012, 06:25:06 am
has anyone ever played their powerpak on a famicom through a modded converter for extra audio? Does the extra audio sound authentic? Are you able to play multiplayer games (like moero twinbee)? I have the external audio mod done on my nes and while external audio is present. it is still noticeably off, especially in FDS games.

Yes to everything. I noticed the problem with my NES too. Replacing the resistor with a potentiometer would alleviate the problem, but it's more trouble than it's worth, imo. Simply using a stock famicom is far easier and reliable if you have one.

I played with resistors but could never get the powerpak sounding like the real thing.  Probably because the powerpak is simply emulating the audio hardware but maybe there's other parts of the audio circuit inside the cart like resistors and caps that aren't present in the powerpak.  Who knows..
