There was a website that was linked in another thread. It was Japanese but it had screenshots of like every pirate ever, had all the Marios 1-50 or whatever. It was a real nice site with too many games to even go through for me. Find it in the thread though, gotta be one that we were talking about pirates.
I remember that site. I went through every damn pirate and took notes. My notes have no info about Mario hacks that aren't listed here, so I don't think the site had that info, iirc. I'll have to track down that link.
Found it, I had it bookmarked, tons of pirates and Unlicensed.

I haven't played enough games to figure out which were hacked. Anyone got a clue for the ones that are missing from my list?

Thank you so much!!
Updated the list at the top of this thread to reflect CaH4e3's info. Thanks, man. :)
anyone have the mario 8 cart?????
Super Mario world (famicom edition)
Kart Fighter (China create) title screen is mario kart(SNES/SFC) but genre is fighter.
Yeah, the super mario world is cool but it plays with some slowdown. It's good for a hack, though, and its worth buying if ya ever see one
Added Kart Fighter to the list. :) Super Mario World was already on it.

Cool...I added siudym's info to the main list. The Mario hack list is coming along nicely. I'm still very curious abotu what Mario 15 could be and if there are any Mario hacks after 17.
I have Super Mario 15 some years ago - its normal Mario1, i dont remember differences :)
edit: hmmm... I have black holes in my memory, but i remember Sonic-like hero instead mario :)

Haha. Sonic looks about as bad as Bart in The Simpson's SMB hack. The only awesome SMB hack I've seen is Pandamar.
I want Mario 8!
We know. ;) Hey, did you see the eBay auction with it in there? It was a pirate lot of about eight games that ended about four days ago. Not kidding.
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAATTTTTTT NOBODY TOLD ME ABOUT THIS AUCTION!!! OMG NOOOOOOOOO "GETS SHOTGUN AND BAM" GOD DAMN IT MARIO 8 NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Cool hack. Looks pretty basic...they didn't even bother to put Mario's image at the bottom. I added it to the list. Now we need only a few more to complete the list. :)
I'm a little bit disappointed. I got a Super Bros 8 cartridge but the game is Don Doko Don 2 without Mario as the main character. The label on my cart is exactly the same as siudym carts. Still it's very good game. I like the music.

Haha. Sucks that they tricked you, jbholio. It's been a while since I've gotten a pirate cart and the game wasn't as advertised.
And FamicomFreak...why would you want that version of SMB8 if it's just Don Doko Don without the hack!?

I heard there are some copies of Mario 8 in Brazil and Peru but the problem is that I have to wait for the end of the year that I'm going on vacation.....
Sorry for a bit offtopic.
I live in post USSR country, named Latvia.
In 90s here was a couple of MASSFLOOD of pirate clones of Asian Nintendo hardware production (HITEX, DENDY, UFO, ZHILITON, etc) sure with a lot of pirate cartridges compilations.
In the one of the compilation cartridges (like 1500 in 1, etc) was a casino game, labeled "SMALL MARIO" in the selection screen. Could you help me with original title?
Could it be Dian Shi Ma Li , also known as Mario Lottery?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL-ECL71ubw
Unfortunately it isn't exactly the same, but very close :)

I have a Castlevania Mario hack for the FDS. Is this a common game? It has a red/orange mario replacing Simon Belmont. I can include some screen shots if you'd like to see them.
I've never heard of it, but it seems hard to get info about FDS hacks. I know there are quite a few hacked Mario games or other games that have Mario inserted into them. Post some screens!
I Have a NES ROM of Castlevania 3 Mario hack.

That is pretty neat. As I've said before many times, I would love to own a disk system some time in the future.
cool.
Hmm..
Is there a way to connect a disc system to a computer, then write to the disc from the computer?
If there is, will it work on a sharp twin?
I think it would be pretty cool.
Yes. It's the FDSLoader project, but I'm not the FDS expert here.
Wow! That's cool. Like I said, it's hard to get info on FDS hacks and pirate originals, not just because people don't mention them but because they're pretty rare. I've only seen a couple in my time buying pirate disks, and I've never seen that one. Great find! I hope someday we find that hack on a cart...I hate messing with the Disk System. :P
BTW: Very cool label! (Can I steal those screens, etc., for the site?)
Sure thing you can use the pics for the site. I can take higher quality pics with my digital camera, since I used my cell phone for the ones I posted, but that won't be until this weekend.
I also have another disk in a lot of games I got that is a SMB1 version with all different levels. I haven't seen it elsewhere before but can post some pics this weekend once I get a chance to play it a bit.
I'm always interested to see cool hacks. So, post those other SMB pics when you get a chance. You can PM me the high-res, if you want. Or email jerahcordova@yahoo.com.
I found a cool Pokemon SMB hack today. It's actually a hack of a hack. It's a hack of Pandamar, which is a hack of SMB. It changes Panda to Pikachu and some of the enemies a slight bit. It's a terrible hack. I hope to add pics of it to the site soon.

Anyone familiar with this mario hack? Here's the cover:
It starts off this way:
Never seen that. Is that the only part that's hacked?
Does Mario jump unusually high? If so, I might know what hack it is.
Nah, the whole game is hacked. All the levels are different but I've only gotten to level 4 since it's kinda tough. Level 1 goes up to 1-5. Mario and Luigi work the same--same jumping heght, they get big and have fireballs. There are no poisonous mushrooms. I looked on youtube but couldn't find anything like it, so maybe it's kinda rare ;)
The thing is, I've seen it before, but now I can't seem to remember. I'm trying pretty hard to ;).
It could be Super Mario Bros Funky Disk (Hack).fds !!! I remember seeing it! But I can't seem to find it now to see if I'm right. I'm still looking for it ;).
here's another pic--the part right before the first flagpole, level 1-1.
That looks confusing. By chance did you snag this from gamedoctor out of Hong Kong?
I got it in a lot of 50 games from Canada. All 50 games are copies on non-nintendo disks. I have 14 that won't play for some reason, errors 20, 22, & 27.
Gamedoctor -- the eBay seller, not the company or product -- sells a lot of hacks, but I've seen a bunch of great stuff come out of Canada. I got my lot of 300 pirated disks from Canada.
I've got an FDS rom called "Super Mario Bros (Mituy Kouji)" and it has level designs that seem to match your screenshots. However, Mario jumps really really high (like 133mhz was saying). The rom also say MITUY instead of MARIO in the upper left.
Man I would give anything to have some of those mario hacks. :'(

Using the naming convention on that site:
Mario 16 - Joe & Mac hack
Mario 16 ver 2 - Kaiketsu Yancha Maru 2: Karakuri Land hack
Ah. I was assuming that Kaiketsu Yancha Maru 2 was the Japanese title for Joe & Mac.
I want one of everything on that site! :o
Anyone know the name of that whacked out SMB hack, where the colors are pastels?
this one?

if you want to play the ROM search emu-russia for "Super Mario Bros Malee 2"
That's the one. The Famicom cart has Japanese or Chinese on the label. I hadn't seen the title screen, so I guess its called "2".
Hi people !!! I'm Vikingo and I'm new in this forum...
I'm from Argentina and when I was a kid i ve seen lots of those Mario pirates... I specially remember that Mario IV (just a Super Mario Bros 2j hack)... In that game you can fly when you get a Star, and you have almost infinite lives... Is'nt it?
PS: sorry for my bad English.... :-)
Wow never heard of that mario! I'm wondering what else you could do in it.
Last mont I bought some Mario Cartridges:
1- Super Mario 3: no hack, just the US version in Famicom format. The most comon mario bros 3 pirate is the japanese version, maybe this is a rare stuff ?
2- Warioland 5 its SMB2 us version, but with the title changed and 9 continues !!! In fact the game is also known as Super wonderfull mario 5, just a new label, nothing special.
3- I 've got that mario that is just named "2" in a multicart
What about the McMario hack? the hack of McKids? heres the video:

Sorry for a bit offtopic.
I live in post USSR country, named Latvia.
In 90s here was a couple of MASSFLOOD of pirate clones of Asian Nintendo hardware production (HITEX, DENDY, UFO, ZHILITON, etc) sure with a lot of pirate cartridges compilations.
In the one of the compilation cartridges (like 1500 in 1, etc) was a casino game, labeled "SMALL MARIO" in the selection screen. Could you help me with original title?
im 99% sure its a taiwanese game called "Xiao Ma Li", screenshots-

i dont even see mario in it lol :P
yeah mario isn't in it at all. i think the name is sort of a play on words, but i don't know enough chinese to say for sure
"Small Mario" -- so small you can't even see him! ::)
That looks more like an evil luigi....maybe waluigi before its existence :o
Can someone please translate this Merio back label? I think it's important:
Maybe that first part is a cheat code...did you try that at the title screen?
That's the button combo for making Mario do Zangief's spinning pile-driver ;D
This Merio game is fucked up; I'm love it. What does the rest say, if anyone knows? Might just be the standard movements, with the exception of Select, which lets you swim on any level.

You're right. I also have a multi with small mario on it and it's this game (without copyrights on title screen). There is also a game called Mario lottery and it's jackpot by bit corp with Mario as character.
Dunno if this qualifies, but if you want, you can add my disk SMB fast hack under "Also Mario related but not a part of the hack series:"
I think that qualifies. What's the name on the title screen, if any?
It says Super Mario Bros., just like the original. Copyright is there and everything.
Hmm...we'll just call it Fast Mario, I guess.

There is one more Mario hack that hasn't been told/presented here. I was like WTF? when a friend of mine told me about it - "Bignose the Caveman" hack ! ::edit - yea, it was a bulls*it :(
I was double shocked (edit:: but now i'm not that much lol) when he showed me his multicart :
Looks awesome. Is MC Mario on the cart, too? Or is it a different McDonald's game, like a hack of Donaldland?
EDIT: I see game #3 on the cart is listed as M.C. Mario. :P All the other games sound like hacks I've heard of. What is the Bignose one listed on the label as?

[in-game pics are coming very soon]
I'd like to see some screenshots. Are you sure it's not a hack of Joe & Mac intead of Big Nose the Caveman.
Eric, yes it does has MC.Kids hack with Mario jumpin' around, pretty unique hack i guess.
but
jbholio, it was a mistake made by my friend who has that cart - he told me there IS a BigNose Hack on this multicart BEFORE he check it out properly... i'm sorry, it was just wrong :'(
The list needs updated to add Frog Prince, which is a SMB hack similar to Pandamar/Pika.
I would have to play through it again to note all the differences, but the Super Bros. 4 I have is not just a port of SMB2j.
The main hacks I recall off-hand was that stars would make you swim in mid-air for the duration of the level, a regular mushroom immediately gives Mario fire-power (even though the suit won't change until the level changes), and you play as the SMB3 Mario sprite. There are graphic differences as well that I don't recall all of (fatter coins, SMB3 toad houses in the scenery, the number "4" on the boxes, etc.)
I had mentioned more about it in the past with pics (pics are in my photobucket still if someone wants to see them).
Perhaps it has been mentioned here before, as this sounds the same...

I asked that earlier. It's Mario 14.
I also have this hack that is a complete level hack of Mario. Apparently there are two versions. The one I have is normal as far as Mario's actions go, but I know Ericj has another version in which Mario swims all the time, shoots fireballs all the time, and above the score, it says MITUY. I have the strange version on my computer, and it's called SUPER_MARIO_FUNKY_DISK_HAC.fds or something like that.
Oh yeah, the one I have on my computer is that one. Instead of swimming all the time, he jumps really high. I've never played the swimming all the time version. I think Ericj has it though.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned a Super Mario hack with Pikachu yet. Found it in Taiwan. Made a year or two ago according to the label (which of course we all know labels always tell the truth). Or does that count as a Mario hack since Mario isn't in it anymore?
Does the title screen say "Pika"? That's on the list -- it's a hack of a hack.
I got a lot of pirate disks today and found a hack of SMB2J. Has anyone ever seen this version? The level setup appears to be the same, but the characters, text, and level appears to be more cartoonish. Check out the pic of Mario.

Hey everyone! I'm new to the whole Forum deal and I am hoping that someone could help me out.
I am an avid collector of rare and unusual ROM images to play on my emulators. Recently I tracked down the Rom for Super Wonderful Mario 5 (Ch) (!).nes a port of SMB 2 and I love it! I am having a really difficult time trying to find the Rom for Super Bros. 4 a port of the Super Mario Bros. 2j rom. I can't find it ANYWHERE and all I keep finding are roms for the japanese version of lost levels. Can anyone give me some direction in finding rare roms like these? I would be Eternally Grateful! Thanks again! SubGuy714
Thanks very much! I appreciate the info!
does anyone know where or how i might be able to buy the cartridge?
They dont show up for sale on here very often, likely you will have to commission someone to hunt them down for you.
I hate to be a pain, i'm a NOOB to the whole cartridge/system scene when it comes to the famicom. What is the function of a converter, and what is required to play these type of games on the famicom. Also, is there a way to play them on a nes or one of those new "retro" combination systems that are springing up all over the place? Thanks for any info, everyone has been really nice helping me so far. Thanks to everyone!
Hey.
The Game Converters switch your Famicom 60 pin games to the 72 pin format that the NES reads. I'm actually not totally certain why the NES has an additional 12 pins other than perhaps the NES10 lockout that was only featured on the American hardware? Anyway, if you're looking to play American games on a famicom, you'll need the slightly rarer 72 to 60 Game Converter, and a 60 to 72 if you're looking to play famicom games inside your NES.
In addition, you can use these converters with the combo systems like the YOBO FC. It's all totally compatible.
I recommend these specific converters for each system.
For converting NES onto a Famicom System:
Family Converter
(http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u68/Evil_Vlad/front_lit_tn.jpg)
For converting Famicom onto a NES console:
Honey Bee Converter
(http://famicomworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/honeybee_adaptor_gold_60-300x156.jpg)
NES 60-to-72 pins converter
(http://famicomworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/nes_cart_converters2-300x159.jpg)
I own all 3 of these converters, so I can definitely recommend them all.
I used to have quite a few Family Converters, but I have over time sold all of them except the one I use to various members on here. No complaints at all, they are by far the best functioning NES to Famicom converter out on the market.
Have you ever had one, seriously.... you appear to be our resident troll.
I have been using the same Family Converter for over 2 years constantly using it and it has not broke.
All I can say is stay away from this gray piece of trash.
It's the only converter I own right now and about 1/5th of my collection doesn't work because of the stupid gray nubs on both sides of the converter. They poke out too much and some pirates are too short to reach the pin connector. I'd cut them off but then it would look funny.

I am simply just gonna ignore your commenting in the forums from this point onward.
I think "Advanture Mario" should be added to the list. It's a sprite hack of Adventure Island, adding in Mario. And, yes, it's spelled "Advanture" instead of "Adventure" on the title screen. ;)
See here (http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=5944.msg91432#msg91432).
Yes but on the menu selection screen it is spelled correct :D maybe the hackers were less smarter than the cartridge creators :D

If you keep hitting reset, does it eventually boot into The Simpsons: Bart vs the Space Mutants? That's what the old FW article says it does.
I read that article before and tried it, but was never able to get mine to boot into it.

Hey, new to the site and the Famicom world and have two quick questions I hope you fine gentlemen can help me out with. My first question is where is a good place to find/purchase hacked Mario games. I have found one or two on ebay in the last month but aside from that I have found no where to buy these items. So a point in the right direction to look for any of these games would be appreciated. My second question is, a friend on a game trading site has offered to sell me Super Bros 6 for $35.00 I am wondering if this is a fair price as there is no pricing guide for hacked Mario games haha. Any help you guys can offer is much appreciated. Cheers and thanks!
$35 for Super Bros 6 is very overpriced. I wouldn't say to pay over $20 for most any Mario hack. Please click the link in my signature, and you'll go to my sales thread on this website. I still have Mario IV and a Mario hack multicart for sale. If you keep an eye on the Buy/Sell/Trade board here on FW, you'll be sure to find a few every once in awhile.
Hey good lookin out friend. I will check out that link. And tell this "friend" to stop trying to rip me off haha. Any other locations other than this site for buying hacked Mario games would be appreciated.
I have some hacked FDS games I can sell if you're interested. Some level hacks of SMB & graphics hacks of SMB2J and All Night Nippon. I also have Akumajō Dracula with Mario hacked in. Send a PM if you're interested.
What I am doing with all Famicom games that I receive is putting them into NES carts using the 60-72 pin converter, photoshopping labels on adhesive glossy paper to create realistic looking carts, and basically extending my NES game collection. As of right now I am only interested in Hacked Mario games shown on page 1 of this thread: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=749.0 basically the 1-17 listing. But I suppose I'd be willing to take a look at any offer. For now that I'm only interested in Mario related games. Preferably the 1-17 listing but email me specific games/hacks you have for sale/trade with any pics you can provide and I will definitely consider making a deal. My email again is erichunterengler@gmail.com

Just wondering if $30 is a good price for a 7 in 1 Mario Multi Cart and also if $15 is a good price for Mario Hack IV. Looking for input from anyone aside from Nintdendodork haha. Also, I appreciate the help Nintendodork.
Yeah, those are good prices for both those carts. If 'dork were to sell them on eBay, they would easily go for almost twice that.
so 'dork's hookin a brother up eh?
This may be a stupid question but is somebody here who collects "Super mario bros. 1" hacks and has a list of the best among them? I am looking for 11 romhacks for a compilation that can be made using this:
http://www.nesworld.com/homebrew/multicart.zip
(a compiler for multicart with 11 NROM games...)
Any list would help :)
Well I am a big mario fan so i will give you some of the greatest :)
( I will link to youtube videos because it is forbiden to link to nes files )

MARVELOUS Tonev!!! Thanks a lot! There are hacks I have never seen before! PERFECT!
It's ok, I can find them myself. You could have put links to *.ips patches here, but that's probably harder to search for than the actual hacked roms.
Thanks again!

Nearly all hacks suggested by you can be found in the IPS patch form over at www.romhacking.net !
um probably but i have more hacks that are good and i could not find youtube links... Btw i have TOO many mario hacks some of them just gfx... Hey that reminds me i can make a smb 1 hack with disk kun but i have no idea how to put it on a cart
If you have them as IPS patches, you can post links to those, IPS patches aren't forbidden or illegal AFAIK.
For example I have just found a marvelous hack Super Mario DX+ v.1.82:

or Minimal Mario

That would be Super mario world 9
Nope, I bet it's not Super Mario World 9--I believe that's a hack of Adventure Island II.
It's a hack of the first/original Adventure Island, and it's mis-named "Advanture" Mario, at least on the menu screen. I have a couple copies of it, too.

I've seen that hack before, the name is spelled correctly on the title screen.

Interesting! I was only aware of the Adv. Island II hack! So this hack of Adv. Isl. 1 is only available via multi-cart?

Not sure, I've only ever seen it on multicarts so quite possibly.
It is a hack of first Adventure Island game.
Does anyone have a pic of the cart for Super Mario Bros. Mali Boss? I think it's a Hammerin' Harry hack.
That's a hack of Super Chinese 2: Dragon Kid (http://www.mobygames.com/game/nes/little-ninja-brothers/screenshots) (aka Little Ninja Brothers). If it's a hack of an existing hack, then I don't know :D
Nice find coolnation

With Mario 7, there are two versions. One is a sprite hack, and one is just a pirated copy ;)
;D Great thread but can you give downlaod links? You don't have too, but I gave a request! :redcart:

Oh, I love that website!
There was a Mario hack I've yet to find, but I remember the cartridge label having....Captain Crunch? :o
Not sure why Captain Crunch came uop when talking about cover art, but hey, to each their own!
I thought I might share a list of SMB1 Hacks I don't have. Much of these are from the early-mid 2000s.

Some hacks :mario:
smbh.ru (http://smbh.ru)
Hey,
Kart Fighter, Somari, and Super Mario World on Famicom are not hacks. They are original games (in the sense that they were programmed from scratch).
A bit of a late response, but here's that Mario / Captain Crunch bootleg that I already mentioned above.
