Title: Glitchy games on pirate carts
Post by: RetroGamerTMD on March 18, 2012, 09:18:53 pm
I got a pirate cart with Contra Force. Super Contra, Shadow of the Ninja, and a shmup like Forgotten Worlds by Natsume.

I'm pretty sure it contains the American release of Contra Force, I've heard stories of the American version of Castlevania 3 doesn't work on famicom systems no matter what converter you use, is it the same thing with Contra Force? Would it be possible to get the game running so that it's playable, like at all?

Contra Force works on all my pirate carts, then again Im not using a converter....but Contra Force is a game that turns up often on multi's, whereas Castlevania III does not. So I doubt it.

Castlevania III runs on the MMC5 mapper, which is difficult to get working on emulators by my understanding. Contra Force is a standard MMC3 game so it should work on anything.

The only experience I've had where I game on a pirate cart glitched, was on a 4-in-1. The game was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the initial American release) and it would let me start the game, walk around the over-world map, but once I go down the sewer to play a stage, it would crash.

I might be wrong, but I think that sounds like an MMC3 conversion that wasn't done very well. :P

Reminds me of a 7 in 1 I have which has Super Contra 6. (A hack of Contra Force in case you're wondering) It works fine up until stage 3, where it crashes at a random point.

Ahh, interesting. I also have a multicart with Super Contra 6 on it, never had any problems with it crashing... at first I thought the massive slowdown was due to a problem with the multicart, but then I found out that was just Contra Force being Contra Force....
