I am looking to get a Phantom NES clone From Brazil and a TecToy Megadrive 3 (looks like a model 2 but silver) they are both PAL region and I am wondering if its possible to convert them to NTSC and can anyone do this? The Megadrive also has 71 built in games, would I still be able to play these if the console is converted?
NES? Easy - just replace chipset. Megadrive - depends what's inside, might be impossible.
If the megadrive uses the same video processing chip as the Megadrive/Genesis (CXA1145 or CXA1645), there is one pin that determines PAL/NTSC. Use Ground/VCC on that pin depending on which processing type you want (NTSC in this case).
Ahh. Found my datasheet. For the CXA1645, you run Pin 7 to Vcc for NTSC.
Although I haven't messed with PAL/NTSC changes in my Genesis systems, I imagine most people just install a switch rather than totally change the pin to the desired output.
@CkRtech: Yes, this is exactly what I did to my European Mega Drive (installed a switch) - it works great!
@Parodius Duh: If your famiclone is anything like the one in this blog post then maybe you could do the same modification:

If you want the megadrive to output ntsc and color then you will need to replace the oscillator.
Not if you use RGB-output! ;D

How about interrupts timing?(50/60Hz)
The systems runs fine. I haven't noticed any issues at all. This is the mod I performed:

I know but if Parodius Duh lives in the US like me getting RGB is a real pain.
I am in the US so RGB is a no go. I might just get both the systems for the hell of it if I can talk the guy down a bit on the price, If so Ill post pics of the insides. If the megadrive was able to be converted to ntsc successfully with a switch or whatever, would the 71 built in games still work? Im assuming most of them are NTSC roms to begin with, cause theres quite a few Japan only titles on the list.
I see no reason why the games would not run, also Im pretty sure the motherboard is the same as a clone.

Built-in games ??? Might be SoC under one big drop of epoxy resin. what is the price by the way?
70 USD for the 2 systems
Normal average price i guess, well if cosmetic condition is ok ??? Shipping might be expensive, but, hey, shipping is shipping and consoles are consoles.
