I've noticed that a lot of old NES have remnants of a sticker on the top in the middle of the console (including my grandpa's, pictured below on the left ), what did this sticker used to be? Or are there just that many with random price stickers in the same spot? Any ideas? ???

no pic....and its probably a price tag or something someone stuck there, never heard of an nes coming new with a sticker on it.
Maybe some of those Nintendo stickers that came in the back of one of the first Player's Guides? :)

No it must have been the official nintendo seal of quality!!!! It just obviously fell off of every other nes every built and left no remains but only this one survived somehow.
A friend of mine has a NES with a big Mario sticker on top of it, but I'm not sure if that came with the NES at it's time or if he got it some place else. He looks pretty similiar to the Mario in the pic below, but it's just Mario and no background etc.

NES sticker special edition? If it was authentic would nintendo use a sticker instead of some hardcore custom case like the pokemon n64?
There was never a sticker officially applied to or handed out with the NES!
