Title: Nintendo Wii U Pro Controller Revealed! (GC/X360 Style)
Post by: FamicomRetroGamer on June 03, 2012, 05:51:45 pm
Wow, this is one awesome revelation from Nintendo, the new controller of their console is going to be a mix of Dreamcast, GameCube, Xbox 360 and PS3 into one designed controller.

This is definitely going to attract A LOT of Xbox 360 as the controller is almost identical to the 360 one.

E3's Nintendo and Microsoft is sure to be awesome, lets hope Sony too.

I'm digging the new controller. Really don't care for everyone comparing it however. Or saying its a rip off, etc. It is sort of bs at this point in gaming history. Most controllers I think were already designed or have some basic concepts from old controllers. I also don't mind the right analog stick being above the buttons. Reminds me of the n64 c buttons if it will be used in this fashion. Besides, how many times are you using both analog sticks at the same time without buttons? (minus katamari haha)

Controllers are evolutionary devices, not revolutionary. I think Nintendo learned a little bit with the Wii. The Wii U controller isn't different, per se, it adds unlike the Wii remote. This is a secondary controller for games that don't take advantage of the screen, such as PS3/360/PC ports.

I hope it uses bluetooth technology like the Wii does. I suspect it will...

This is great because while my Wii hasn't been used for gaming in years... the controllers see regular use on my android phone. The latest build of android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) adds full analog support for external remotes... should lead to good things.

The tablet has a 3-5 hour battery life with a 2.5 hour recharge time.....ouch! Glad you can play plugged in but that will make it non wireless  :upsetroll:

And that's according to Nintendo's own (Japanese) website.  Youch.

Yep, same mistake as the 3DS battery life, in which they were well aware of consumer complaints.
Let's prey that there is a "Mugen Power battery" released for the tablet.

Isn't the whole tablet thing the main selling point of the Wii U? Hey look, we can be trendy again and go the iPad route this time instead of motion controls! Grandma will be impressed!

At least you can plug in the tablet apparently, same as you can plug in the "portable" 3DS to overcome the shortcomings.
The 50% FPS drop when playing with two players is another gigantic party foul.

The Wii U will probably be successful though, yuppies bought into the dangerous mercury "green" lighbulbs and low flow "triple flush" toilets.
"Oh, your lighbulb died and burst? Just open all windows and quarantine the room for 3-6 hours."

The ignorant masses win again, Nintendo markets to the non-gamers in 2012. Anyone really surprised?
I wish the best of luck to Nintendo, but they're serving up an unpalatable dish and they know it.

What are you referring to with the 50%frame drop?

When 2 tablets are used the fps drops to 30fps.

Whatever it is, it's to compete with the whole iPad look. Confusion won't change a thing about it...  grandmas may still be impressed.  ;)

It's a gigantic and uncomfortable tablet sized controller, with a large touch screen that can play games without the use of a TV. If it's not a tablet, it's a...

oh wait, it's a tablet.

edit: OK, so it's a tablet with controller features added on the side (or a controller that happens to confine and surround an expensive tablet?). Just wait until frustrated kids throw this thing when they lose a game! Will cost parents a hefty "tablet sum" to replace it I'd bet. LOL

I'm guessing that these tablet controllers will cost $139.99US at the cheapest to replace, and that's being optimistic.

A touchscreen does not a tablet make.  The DS is not two tablets hinged together.  I'll grant you that it is similar to a tablet in that it has a huge touchscreen, however, it is not a tablet because:

If Nintendo wanted to tap the tablet market then they would just make the next DS a tablet :P

  • It has a huge form factor compared to tablets (so that it will be comfortable to hold as a controller)
  • It is primarily used by using the analog sticks/buttons or by moving it around the air, not by touching the screen (hence why the screen is single-touch)
  • It is not portable

If Nintendo wanted to tap the tablet market then they would just make the next DS a tablet :P

My bad, I kinda figured that a large touch screen device such as this that can run games without the need of an external display was considered a tablet. I see now that it is kinda' a DS home console. I'll hold further judgements until I play one, but right now I enjoy the 3DS the most out of the current gen. The auto-stereoscopic tech is simply cool and convenient.

Talking about the 3ds I was really disappointed that they said a larger version was not coming out and just a rumor! Wtf :( I've been waiting for the redesign to get one!

Is it though. A controller doesn't entice people alone, it's about the games.
So far it's all about a bunch of 'enhanced' 360/PS3 games.  For those folks that have those consoles, what's the point of having another?
It's like when Sony and MS did Move/Kinect to try and win the Wii crowd, late to the party and then some.  I feel it's the same with this.

I have a 360 and an iPad plus a library of amazing games, why would I buy a WiiU and those games all over again?
Even for those that don't have a 360 yet - I think they'll get one oevr this as it's probably half the price and the games will be avaloable cheap as 'last gen' outings before long...

Saving my cash for next gen myself, happy to play old Nintendo systems until proven otherwise.  It's a disappointment for me, I was really hoping they'd pull something outta the bag as usual.  It's like GCN all over again.

A larger one, why would you want a larger version of 3DS?

I was thinking a 3DS Slim with a 2nd analogue stick to avoid that add-on.

Because the battery life sucks so I wouldn't use it as a portable really. I have my psp with emulators for that :) nice big screen with a decent battery and 3d? Sounds great :) a slim but with analog sticks would be nice also
