Title: WTB: Replacement Famicom controller cases.
Post by: garyptaszek on June 12, 2012, 06:36:46 am
I recently got a Famicom and the 'brass' parts of the controls are really worn. If anyone knows where I could find replacement outer casings for both controls or even if you have a damaged Famicom with controls in better condition I would be happy to swap (obviously I'll throw some money in at my end to make it fare).

Maybe a nice Japan-based forum member will help you out with importing.
If not let me know, I'm in UK too and we can order a bunch together if you like.  I need to get some stuff from them too.

Yes please do.
You'll just need to peel the old one off and give the red shell a good clean.  As they're about a tenner a time (for both) it would make sense for us to combine shipping I'd say.

You can buy at least brand new player 2 controller off of ebay, maybe player 1...just do a search for "New Famicom controller" they are easy to install, all you do is open the system, unplug the old controller, plug the new one in, screw the system shell back together.

Example A: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-Famicom-NES-2nd-Controller-Pad-Brand-New-JAPAN-/220776001148?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3367466e7c

That's a pricier option, but a better one considering you get the whole controller etc.

yeah, the control I have is working fine so no need to replace the whole thing. It looks more like it's been left in storage and the plates have oxidised rather then wearing out from lots of use.

Youll be hard pressed to find any used controllers in nice shape, let alone actual replacement shells.

Ah, that... It's common. In the "Finds" thread someone promoting "hi-end" Famicom and there is plates as kit(maybe). Or just go to your local company, which making adz on the vehicles - they have all sorts of sticky plastic film and cutting plotters. Make your own "plates".

did that once with a NES controller that was seriously messed up. It's aged abit from being used (and chucked around abit). The face plate is real brass from the metal workshop where I work.

unfortunately I no longer work 'in' the workshop and instead am doing night shifts out on the underground as a fitter. If I did plan to make any I'd have to order a whole sheet of the brass needed which would be costly, I only made this one with some scrap left over from a job a year ago.
