Title: Best SNES, Gameboy boards
Post by: L___E___T on June 18, 2012, 11:10:12 am
Hey y'all.

So this is the best English Famicom site (and probably best NES) by a long shot.  I already know the best English Virtual Boy site:

What are best English Superfamicom/SNES and Gameboy communities?

If I knew a game boy board I would be hanging there....  :-[
There are game boy posts on nintendo age, assemblergames and digitpress but I think there is too much other stuff there too.

Nintendo Age offers a full list but no insight into the games and it's not the kind of friendly place I want to hang out.
Something else I noticed is that it's so US-centric, they don't seem to care about Japanse games and I prefer the Japanese side (hence why I came here) :)

Assemblergames, they generally just care about development and rare kit.

I did find a German gameboy board and SNES central, but they're not quite what I was looking for :(
Actually, on a return visit SNES Central aint half bad:

 What are the odds on getting Super Famicom/Game Boy boards added to this site?

 Is there a big enough audience on here to support it?

I guess that's the 'other gaming' thread right?  Not quite ideal, but the are some members here like NensonDubois who knows a lot about SNES games and I think FredJ know a fair bit about Gameboy games as well.

Super Famicom is talked about here, I personally own a SuFami with close to 20 games.

I guess it would make sense to have a separate board for all things 'other' including buy sell trade, but would it still feel like a famicom board?  Probably not...

Well... it was called the super famicom ... and game boy is basically from the same era, besides being a nintendo product also. I don't see a problem expanding 2 additional child boards directed specifically at super famicom (maybe focused more on the super famicom than SNES) and the game boy.

The only problem would be if people were clamoring for additional child boards, where do you end? N64? GameCube? Wii? GBA? DS? 3DS? Do you open it to more than nintendo products?

Personally, I don't see a problem expanding into some of these slowly (SFC, GB/GBC)... and seeing how those do... I think there'd be an issue if there was a sudden burst of 20-40 child boards for all the different systems though.

I think SFC, GB and GBC are fine because these all share similarities with the famicom.
They're all sprite based, they're adjacent to the famicom in terms of era and many games are even across those platforms.

I'd rule out anything after that because when you move to polygons, it's a completely different package in terms of appeal.

I don't think this board will change that much. :)
If someone want to post about GB / SNES I suppose they could go ahead in the Other section.

Weird thing is, I used to have a SNES but I'm not into that at all now.
I can still enjoy the games I played as a kid, such as a round of Super Mario Kart or Street Fighter II (games I've spent several hundreds of hours on, maybe thousands). But I find the graphics stale and cartoonish on most SNES / SFC games. I wish they had made more games look like they did with several soccer games to give it a more realistic feeling.
