So my school schedule this semester gives me over an hour of free time. On days when our schedules sync up I use this time to hang with friends, on days it doesn't I'd like to purchase a famiclone so I could kill the time with my favorite 8-bit games. I know there are several different portable famiclones, but which one gets the Famicom World seal of approval?
I second this question, I am still searching for the best way of playing 8-bit everywhere, but so far I only have GBA with supercard, but the GBA screen has wrong resolution for NES games.
I'd say PSP running custom firmware... NES / Famicom games look great on it at 1:1
I'm wanting something that will run physical carts.
I own 1 of the sb z12 cheap chinese 2.5 inch ones
I dont know if i would say its high quality but for the price they are around $30 i think it was a good buy.
It is pretty chunky but is very comfortable to play, screen and controls arnt the best but do the job.
i would recommend one if you are on a budget but im sure there are much better more expencive machines this is just the only one i have used.
i dont think it would get the famicom world recommendation probably more of the dont buy stamp from most but i love mine and would drop $30 on another if this one broke.
I'm afraid none of the famiclones with real cartridge input was ever approved by Famicomworld comitee as a "best portable famiclone".
There simply isn't such a thing.
XiTaU can you do a photo of your clone? Or a website link...
EDIT: Some links of interest.

Lol I might have to look it up.
here is a video of a sb z12 but they have badged it retro mini
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-j8i88O3xLo
this guy didnt seem to like it but i do and for $30 i wouldnt expect the world
That's an Nes though, I was looking for a famicom.
the badged retro minis have a built in converter the sb z12 doesnt have that and is just ur standard famiclone.
Two slots or an adapter?
its just a standard famicom slot
i can take some photos if u wanna see it but it is just like the one in that vid i linked but with a famicom connector and not a nes connector
if u really want i can take some photos of it but as i said im sure its not the best but it is the cheapest ive seen online
maybe someone from Japan or China can find a better device for cheaper
whole device is about 5 inches long 2 1/2 high and 1 1/2 thick so its still very portable
bettery life is pretty good i use some rechargeables and lasts for hours
Can you run in SMB and press A comfortably?
yeah button configuration is very good its really easy to hold down a with the joint of the thumb and press b with the tip
I was playing on a Pokefami for a while. Made a video review here: http://youtu.be/QBwI6EbNT0Y
I paid about $40 for it and wouldn't recommend it. Had two copies, both screens started crapping out after about two weeks. Also, the controls are not as responsive as you would want for a game like Gradius, MegaMan 2, etc. Quality seems to be the biggest issue with these things.
My Hyperkin is great! Very good choice, not getting much use out of it so I'm planning on selling it :-\
I got a Game Prince. It has 152 built-in games and I use it all the time. There are some repeating games and it doesn't take carts but the games are all pretty good, some examples :
Contra
Super Mario Bros.
TMNT Tournament Fighter
Nuts and Milk
Ice Climbers
etc.
I could find no megaman games but other then that a lot of classics are there.
I'm a fan of the FC-Mobile, personally.
