I never understood the point of a flash cart. I much prefer to get a USB to NES/SNES/64/whatever and just run an emulator.

some people like the feel of playing on official hardware. But yeah for the most part, I would be inclined to agree, that being said, eventually I'd like to have a SD2SNES but another couple hundred and I could get a Intel Core 2 and run BSNES and it would be just like playing on real hardware.
I get what you're saying. But in that case they're only running on halfly official hardware, since the game is a "pirate" so to speak. But hey it's an opinion, and if you or anybody else prefers to use a flash cart who am I to tell you that you're doing it wrong?
ah hell yea! better have fds support
I am completely in. Can't wait.
I'll still be buying carts for collecting purposes, but I'm glad to be able to try out some of the titles that will take me some time to get.
Can't wait! Predicted price range? $150?
I'd say price will be $79.
Usually bare flash carts (pcb only) are about $80, although stoneagegamer puts them in cart shells and upcharges for it.
I have a Super Everdrive, it's awesome. Hopefully this will be equally awesome. I'll be interested in seeing what mappers this supports.
There is nothing like real hardware. I have an RGB NES abd 37" RGB monitor, and NES games look like I am playing an Arcade game.
I hope next is a GB mono/color flash cart...
I've gotten several Everdrives and I like all of them so far. I think he'll make it be great the only question is will it have great mapper support from the beginning or be like the N64 Everdrive that took a few months and a hardware revision to have about 99% compatibility.
As much as I like the NES PowerPak, I totally welcome a Famicom Everdrive. I actually would like that it is gonna be in a Famicom shell, as well as later, an NES one. Mapper support is gonna be what could make or break it. FDS support and NSF player would be nice to include, as well as Game Genie. Real time save would be awesome too.
Anyone know of an ETA for this?
Mannn sucks for 80sFreak. I support his flashcart though.
I think a lot of people are fully behind you, I know I am.
Yup! Support locals! XD
I didn't post this as a detrament to your project 80s, I was just posting as news since this is a Famicom board, no disrespect intended :)
I'm still interested. These kinds of projects alway fascinate me.

Oh, well.... At least someone support me :( I thought to give up actually, BUT... i'm after real sound chips on my flashcart, so show must go on :)
Then I'll have to get this one as well. I know I"ll end up with multiple flash carts by different authors but if you're not willing to upgrade when better devices come out we'd all still be using floppy disk devices!
I'm still fully supportive of your flash cart. Yours is cooler because it has a direct link to the pc
I'll go with whatever's the cheapest option for me to buy, gives me FDS support, and works on actual Famicoms, just in case I can get my Twin Famicom working again. Those stupid 80's disk drives are so fragile. Makes me miss my Commodore 64, though.
there are actually another flashcart on the way, InviteNES
News from HardWareMan
QuoteAnother WIP. At this time, testing of implementation of the FDS and NSF. FDS has a built-in menu, where you can select the drive and side of the disc, or go to the main menu. NSF does not yet have additional sound chips, all of the music played by the pAPU. But the extra sound chips on the way! First one tested in a unique mapper №69 from SunSoft, which was used only in the one game: Gimmick!
PS Do not pay attention to the garbage on the screen FDS and NSF - it debug stuff, in a release, they will be removed.

InviteNES specs:2 megabytes of RAM for the PRG.
2 megabytes of RAM for the CHR.
Cyclone II FPGA as mapper and logic.
STM32 Cortex-M3 controller as a co-processor for memory card, SRAM, and FPGA (can be used from 6502 side).
32 kilobytes of battery-backed WSRAM (as 4 pages of 8 KBytes).
USB connector, which can be used to communicate with the computer.
Support SD/MMC memory cards up to 32GB.
You can create your own mapper, and game for it!

^ supposedly the Mega Everdrive cart has a big fpga for that reason (the same as InviteNES now that I look closer), there is talk that it will also emulate the FM chip that is present in Japanese SMS so when you play supporting games on the MegaEverdrive you will hear the upgraded tunes, but nothing came out as of now... it does offer in-game-menu and load/save states in many games that work with it though :cherry:

They just failed to "verilog" YM2413. Nice chip, by the way.
awesome chip I must add, I have a smsfm board installed on my sms1 console, it makes a huge difference in the games that support it :pow:
Is there any update on when the famicom cart / board will be avaialble and cost? Nothing new on Krikzz.com
A month ago he said they will be ready in 3 months or so, so I guess January - February? Something along these lines... he also said that the prize will be similar to the N64 cart that costs 99$ ... not bad I think :mario:
Sounds good, shall be my Christmas present :)
Personally I am holding until both EverDrive and InviteNES gets released so I get the better one
I'd like to get both, if I can. Where can I find out more about InviteNES?
Spoiler
I found these from googling:

Sadly lead-free electronics are enforced by law in the EU, nothing can be sold here that isn't lead free :'(
What's wrong with FDS emulation on the Powerpak?

The emulation of the FDS's extra audio channel is inaccurate and it also doesn't support multi-disk games.
I hope the Famicom Everdrive work with Famiclone like the Super 8

The board (which is already on backorder) has been released!
I put an order in, this will be great for playing translations/hacks/homebrews without having to mod carts to make repros or resort to emulators.

I stays with real carts ::)
I am a greedy man, I want both carts and this everdrive ;D ;D ;D ;D
Do you think I should wait for the entire cart or some special deluxe version?/ I don't want to miss the batch...
Oh, I missed this:
Will there be a Deluxe Edition?
Yes we are working on a Deluxe Edition. We will eventually take back orders once we have mock-ups available for the public to view. We want buyers to know what they are getting before back ordering. We expect price of Deluxe Edition to be around $175 give or take.
If you want Deluxe Edition we suggest waiting for back order. Most of the boards we ordered will be reserved for Deluxe Edition.
I sold my PowerPak yesterday and used the cash to buy an Everdrive-N8, really looking forward to it!
Krikzz is selling them from his own store http://shop.retrogate.com/EverDrive-N8-Famicom-ver-EDN8.htm Available now, no backorder. I paid yesterday, it got dispatched today.
and then SAG won't sell just the Famicom Shells
I'm buying PCB only
Whoa, is this the Famicom's first flashcart? Gonna order mine on Saturday! Now, what cartridge shell to put the PCB in...
Should I get one with USB or not?
Post Merge: February 07, 2013, 05:24:28 am
I just lumped for one with the USB and the flashcard. I really want the deluxe version, but guessing they'll sell out so quick, no chance am I missing out here.
Let's get on label designs!

There deluxe editions are expensive for what you get unless he's going to have some sort of clear cart or something crazy it doesn't seem worth it. I do like his TG16/Pc Engine deluxe set but only for that cool orange case it comes with but all the others models not so much.
I guess Stone age as to get some sort of profit out of it. I'm sure he doesn't make anything crazy just selling the bare PCB's
I ordered my PCB direct from Krikkz.
I'll stump up for the deluxe edition when it's out as well because I think it will be a nice special, but the PCB I ordered earlier is what will get most use, mainly for FDS.
I'm thinking really hard selling Bonk on the NES for this
From one of the threads on Stone Age Gamer's facebook
" I don't have one to tell you, but from what KRIKzz told me it fits in Nintendo style shell. If you look up original Adventure Island for Famicom, that type of shell it should fit in."
So wonder what kind of cheapy famicom games have the same type of shell as the original Adventure Island?
I'm thinking of putting it in a Salamander shell if it'll fit. Sounds like it'll fit the early UNROM shells, so I imagine plenty of others will also fit. Mine's shipped, so I'll know soon enough. Only thing I'm wary of is cutting a USB slot.
i have plenty of doubles or triples to get a shell im just kicking myself i missed release by a day and they were already backordered

Lots of Famicom games use the standard Nintendo-manufactured shell so I'd imagine a number of the cheapy games use it as well.
Yes they do. I have a massive stack of shitters I might bust open to make into shells for the PCB for those that need them. Need some rubber grips though to prevent damage.
Judging by the common holes in the PCBs, if the everdrive fits Adventure Island it should fit Salamander:

80sFreak may laugh at that assesment, but I have my hopes it'll fit:

Of course I'll need to wait until it arrives to be sure. Will update with progress.
I like the idea of using this shell given the N8's sound abilities and Konami's penchant for sound enhancing chips. They're also both blue :octorok:
In any case let's see next week.
I really hope that we see a Famicom Flashcart eventually.

no need to hope, it's already been released
I think he had Memory Lost the past 4 months
the world's going to shit, current gen gaming (while it does have some gems) is going to crap (and if some of the rumors about the next gen are true, it's just gonna get worse). Thank goodness for guys like Krikzz, Bunnyboy and emulator developers. Retro gaming FTW!!!
