I know that the Neo Geo CD version comes with handheld controllers but is there anyway that the cartridge version can work with a handheld, because the controller for the cartridge based model is way too big.
Kind of the wrong forum for this, but I'll answer anyhow.
All Neo Geo controllers are compatible with all variations of the systems.
The Neo Geo CD controller pad, the original AES arcade stick, and the revised kidney bean controller are all interchangeable on the AES/CD/CDZ systems.
Hopefully that helps :D
Thanks yes it does. One more question, out of the 2 consoles which one do you prefer the CD or cartridge?

The NGCD has pretty bad loading times, but the games are fairly cheap in comparison to AES carts, some of which sell for over $1K. The best approach is to get a consolized MVS (the arcade system), since most MVS games are dirt cheap. I own an AES but I plan to get an MVS converter so I don't have to empty out my bank account to get a new game for it (!).

Also is there any way that nes and sega games can work on the neo geo?

Photos of the loading times? Think PS1, but slower. 60 seconds to play a game (sounds short, but it's not)

No
In your opinion, what is the greatest console of all time?
The PS1 wasn't bad for loading times at all..
The intellivision II is the best console.
So with a converter can the Neo Geo play almost any arcade game that existed?
If you want to play arcade boards that aren't Neo Geo cartridges, you'll need something called a Supergun. Superguns essentially turn any arcade game board into a game you can play on your TV. In addition, you can buy any old one-slot MVS board, plug it into a Supergun, and then it's just like having a consolized MVS (but less pretty). If you'd like to learn more, SupremeJudge made a great general overview video: http://youtu.be/-GNFUh_gwxI
He has several videos on arcade games & mods as well.

Thanks a lot, so what's your favorite console?

What does that have to do with the original topic?
Not that you asked me or anything, but I'd say that the best console is a 3-way (haha 3-way so funny) tie between the Famicom, the Master System and the Genesis. This is my opinion.
The Neo Geo seems like it had such crisp graphics.
I'm tempted to say GBA SP. Sorry Famicom :(
I know some people insist that handhelds aren't consoles, so to satisy those folks I'd say the Super Famicom.
I played PS2 the most avidly, myself.
I think handhelds should be categorized separately, but they're still consoles. The only difference is that they have their own screen and power supply built in.

I love the GBA SP hardware, but there are very few GBA games I've gotten excited about. Any suggestions that could change my mind?

Wario Land 4
Super Mario Advance
Mr. Driller 2
Klonoa
Street Fighter Alpha 3
The GBA SP is wonderful, but I love it because it allows me to play GB games and actually be able to see the screen.
- Double Dragon Advance
- Kirby - Nightmare in Dreamland
- Mega Man & Bass
- Mega Man Battle Network 1 & 2
- Sonic Advance (for me, this felt like Sonic 4)
- Super Mario Advance 4 with e-Reader cards
Forgot about Nightmare In Dream Land. The GBA seems to have a lot of really great remakes.
Megaman Zero 1-4
Link to the Past, Minish Cap
Mario Kart Advance
Ninja Cop
Castlevania Aria of Sorrow
Yoshi's Island
Metroid Zero Mission
Warioware
SMB3,4 and Megaman & Bass were mentioned already.
These are all MUST play games in my opinion.
I have to disagree on SF Alpha 3. It can't handle the game and having only four buttons drives you nuts. SF2 Revival is more playable I think but still has some ugly art changes. In SFA3, a lot of the artwork was condensed down to GBA resolution and just looks bad.
Yeah but it has Yun...!
On a serious note, I get your point. I honestly meant to say SSF2TR, got my games confused. SFA3 was a major downgrade from the actual game, where as SSF2TR recreated it pretty faithfully.
Edit: And I actually did like the character portraits in SSF2TR, but I guess that's just me. I still prefer the original ones from ST.
I like the portraits a little less than the originals, but I was actually talking about some of the new backgrounds and those changes.
Also check out these gems:
Drill Dozer
F Zero
Doom
Mario vs DK
Gunstar Super Heroes
Mother 3
Metroid Fusion
Advance Wars
Astro Boy is also a must play, one of the best games I've played. As is Warioland 4. I bought it new when I first got my GBA and hadn't played a Warioland before. I fell right into it and completed it 100% the music is amazing and I love how creatively random the game is, especially with all the vinyl collectables.
