Ok so within a week I've become the proud owner of a famicom and a FDS.
Can anyone recommend the best games for the FDS and the best FDS exclusive. The only games I won't be into are RPGs as translation will be lost on me.
Hope ye can help.
Al.
Most FDS exclusives are adult games AFAIK(correct me, if i'm wrong). Most common are Zelda, Metroid, Mario2, Akumajou, Doki doki.
I think the adult games are all pirates though. I think most FDS exclusives are RPGs and Adventures that require Japanese literacy but there are a great number of ones that aren't as well!
The best games I can think of right now are the ones 80sFREAK listed as well as Zelda 2, Dracula 2, Palthena no Kagami, Eggerland (same as Meikyuu Shinwa for MSX) and the FDS exclusives: Ai Senshi Nicol, Kaettekita Mario Bros and Nazo no Murasame Jou.
Bubble Bobble is an exclsuive, as well as the Famicom Detective Club games and some others.
Basically all of these, though some weremobviously on NES as well:

I love excite bike 2 and as far as i know there is no cartridge release
I love the Famicom Detective Club games but they are sadly very text heavy adventure games in Japanese. A remake of part II has a fan translation though.
Tonev you mean Excitebike VS right? It is kind of like the arcade game of the same name but with totally different music and a design mode were you can save designed tracks to disk without the keyboard.
There's also the rare, disk writer exclusive Eggerland Souzou he no Tabidachi which contains a construction mode (like the very first game to MSX) and you can save levels to disk. Haven't got to try it though.
vs excitebike
puzzleboys
nazo no musamune er something like that
Metroid (for the intro and ending FM sound)
twinbee 2 (3 player)
eggerland
My favorites of the FDS games that I have so far played are:
Kid Icarus
Metroid
Super Mario Bros 2 (Exclusive)
Doki Doki Panic (Exclusive)
Zelda no Densetsu
Zelda 2
Kaettekita Mario Bros (better version of Mario Bros)
Hao-kun no Fushigi na Tabi (different version of Mystery Quest / Guilty Pleasure of mine)
Akumajou Dracula (savable version of Castlevania)
So THAT's why you can save on the GBA re-release :)
Thing is, you have to die to save, so it means starting stage 3 or 4 for example with no upgrades. I'd rather play through from the start :)

I believe it was a promo thing correct me if I am wrong. I can't read or speak Japanese but there is more content for sure.
I like the whole being able to change direction while jumping thing more like smb or smb2 or smb3 or ANY OTHER MARIO GAME AFTERWARDS.
Yeah it has promotional elements in too as you say
Kaettikita Mario was a promotional game you could order from a brand of Curry.
Theres many FDS exclusives! Just a few good ones:
Almana No Kiseki
Meikyuu Jiin Dababa
Ai Senshi Nicol
Falsion
Wardner No Mori
Hero of Babel
Wasn't it available on the Disk Writer for 400¥?
Yo !
I have reviewed/tested nearly 50 FDS games on my site, here's a list:

I hope you'll find something you like in there :)
There are a couple of games that were not mentioned here, such as Gall Force (which is an ok/fun shooter), Kiki Kaikai (which is totally different from the arcade version) or Yuu Maze (well, I'm biased with that one, I used to love the arcade as a kid)
Master Disk, I don't know how much it cost, but yes it was. It was exclusive to the Disk Writer, as a matter of fact.
