Anybody getting it?
I'll try to pick it up tomorrow. :bub:
It's one of the games I've been eyeing in at since I liked the original. I'll have to get a 3DS first though. I'm thinking of getting one the next time I'm in Japan since I don't want to miss out on Japanese games because of the region lockout.
Damn region lock. >:(
How often have you been in Japan?
Only once. :-[ It's so expensive to go. :( But I plan to go again sometime soon.
If you pick up Luigis Mansion 2 I wouldn't mind if you report your impressions Manuel. :)
Once is more than never. :)
Flights are really expensive. I for example haven't been back in Germany even once since I moved to Japan about 5 years ago. :o
I'll surely post my impressions here when I get the game. :gamer:
Oh 5 years!? I understand why but it sounds like a long time.
I'll be looking forward to it! :)
First impression:
Awesome and a lot of fun! :bub:
Definitely a must-have if you enjoyed the first one.
I'm going to be getting it for sure. I wuv weegee!
This is a game that would make good use of a second analog stick.
One thing that I personally am not so fond of right now is that it's mission based, and missions are timed. :/
I want to take my time exploring! :-[
Oh my god!
The first boss is ridiculously hard. :o
I died twice already. :-[
I know what to do, but the task is so complicated and you have to constantly dodge attacks while doing that. :'(
This smiley fits best:

Sounds good, I liked the first game and Miyamoto games in general! :D

Sounds bad, I also like to explore in a slow pace. :(

Heh! Sounds like my first impression of the final boss in the first game. I took back all bad things I previously said about modern games being to easy!
Taking your time probably is no big problem.
I always took a lot of time so far and the rating I received at the end of the mission was always 1 star. Only in the first mission I had 2 stars. I don't know what the highest rating is... probably 3 stars.
I found the last boss in the first game relatively easy.
Maybe my skills are just rusted, but the first boss in Dark Moon feels much more difficult than the last boss in the first one.
OK so taking your time just affects your rating. I guess it couldn't be as bad as in Megaman Zero 2. That game forces you to make near perfect runs on every stage the first time you beat them (you have to reload your save and try again until you can do it with a good rating) in order to get most of the abilities and upgrades in the game.

That's what my brother also said lol! Maybe I was just surprised and was expecting another King Dodongo that goes down in about three hits.
The rating is influenced by the time you take, the number of ghosts you catch, the amount of money you find and the amount of damage you take.
I got a 3 star rating on one mission in the meantime and I think this is the highest possible.
I really like Luigi's Mansion 2! I got it on the release date (almost didn't though; the Walmart employee was so sure that it wasn't supposed to be released until Tuesday and I had to Google the release date in front of him in order to the buy the game)...anyway!
The mission-based style of gameplay is a change indeed, but I think I like it. it allows for cleaner cuts in the story and is a lot easier to pick up and play. I think it works well this way since it's on a portable console. I enjoyed the increased difficulty of the (first) boss from the previous game. I didn't die because I kept flashing the spiders for hearts (and had a dog bone! ;D), but I lost a lot of health (I think the summary at the end said ~400).
I agree that the the missions shouldn't be timed because exploration is critical in both of the Luigi's Mansion games. You simply can't run straight through a mission and think you'll see everything that makes the game worth it. I don't especially like the new design of the ghosts. I feel they're a bit generic in comparison to those in the first game. I also enjoyed the first game's more sinister tone over the slightly goofy, lighthearted one that is presented in the sequel.
Those are just my condensed thoughts. TL;DR it's a good sequel with some differences, but you can't expect everything to be just the way you want it. Definitely one of the few games worth having a 3DS for (at this point in time, at least. I am well aware of the great stuff coming).
Good summary.
I also wish it was a bit creepier, but it's still awesome.
BTW, I lost (I think) 80 health at the first boss when I beat him. I didn't know that the spiders drop hearts when flashed. :o
Hey anybody who picked Luigi's mansion and not activated their Nintendo club pin would be willing sell it to me I would appreciate it. as I just picked up a 3DS XL the current promotion is if either this game or the new Pokemon is purchased before april 25 along with a new system you get a free 3ds download.
Anybody else picked it up?
I didn't even see this thread! I got it on launch day. I downloaded it just because I think downloading full games really work with portables, and I got Super Mario 3D Land for free! Both are wonderful games, and the 3DS has a bright future coming up. The Wii U, on the other hand...
I'm debating between getting this next or the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, after I finish playing Fire Emblem. I played the demo in the store, and I was pretty hooked after just a couple minutes.
It's on my to-buy list, for sure, though.
