Title: Metroid issues?
Post by: JessicaWolf on April 26, 2013, 08:07:43 pm
So, I am having some trouble with my copy of Metroid I recently acquired. The game boots up just fine with no errors, but things get weird after I try to load a save file. The game reads side A with no issues and it seems to read side B with no issues as well, however one of two things happens. Either the FDS will finish reading the disk and then go dormant, leaving the screen black, or it will load the opening scene just fine but as soon as I jump down in a way that would cause the screen to move, it locks up. The music still continues to play without an issue though. Any thoughts as to why it is doing this and how I might be able to fix it?

Useful info
-FDS and Famicom plays other games without any issues
-The copy of Metroid is an official copy, not a pirate

Probably the disk is having issues? have you tried it on a different FDS?

Regards.

Official Metroid? Yes. Official save file? I doubt.

It might be 1)physical damge/dirt where save file located; 2)save file was stored on slightly missaligned drive

So in the case of (2) you could just delete the save and start over again.

If the disk is dirty, I heard someone using an FDS disk cleaning kit but I have never tried it.
