Title: Quick Disks on a Famicom Disk System
Post by: RGB_Gamer on June 24, 2013, 11:24:13 pm
I have a bunch of Smith Corona and Roland Quick Disks. I know a hack magazine showed how to use these as FDS disks using a metal piece on the top of the disk, but since I can't seem to find info on this, does anyone have a modern day solution for using QD's in an FDS drive?

I also read that somehow, quickdisks could be made from 8" floppy somehow. I wish I had some translated issues of Backup Technique...

I asked about this a while ago, the common answer I got was "don't bother, use actual FDS disks instead". I suppose if you modelled and 3D printed one of the clip-on things you mentioned it'd probably work.

All they require is a small plastic adapter (the same one Hacker used) that can be popped onto any QD. The disk case also needs slightly trimmed to remove the tabs on either side. Or, you can use a thick wire bent like in the  pics on my site (http://www.famicomdisksystem.com/disks/).

Either way, I have a handful of them and the QDs aren't reliable in the FDS at all, and are difficult to both read and write. Cool to have, but don't expect great performance.

But wait ain't  Quick Disk more expensive than original famicom disk system disks?
