Title: Finally obtained a Family Computer but cant get games to run on it
Post by: 77punk on August 08, 2013, 11:28:07 pm
Hi all. I am super proud to say that I finally found a Famicom to buy. Ive been a collector for some time now and just got the opportunity.

I found a model 1 genesis AC adapter and have been using a standard RF from the states. I turned my television to channel 95/96 on a newer but not HD unit and besides getting complete random pixels on the game Baseball, I cant get any of the games I have (39 more) to work besides showing a blue screen. I have cleaned the contacts on the games and on the system with alcohol. Took it apart and everything looks good.

Anyone know if there is a reputable person fixing these systems if I cant get this one working? Any other ideas would be great. The system is stamped with 1983 on the base and 1984 on the mobo inside.

Lol, classic. Watching GametechUS vids, I am going to try to diag this system myself as much as I can. I have a multimeter and such. Yay to old hardware. I do love the look though!

hey 77punk. I don't know if you got your fami working yet or not, but I had similar problems when I got my famicom.what I did was readjust the 60 pins inside the connector, to bring them closer together.took some sand paper ,pretty light grit, about 600.folded it and started cleaning the contacts with it to remove any rust or anything else that might be on the pins.people will say to use alcohol and such, that won't do much for oxidization.when that's done give err a good blow job.....ummm yea use one of those cans of compressed air used to clean keyboards.safety glasses would be wise. I haven't viewed the video in this thread, I'm sure its very usefull.I'm also putting a video together of what I did to get a few famicoms that seemed dead working perfectly.along with some mods that I've done the console. let me know if you'd like the link when I post it up.

How would I adjust the pins? I heard about the bent safety pin and bending the middle out but can you verify what you did to get your system working in that regard :)

THank you!

I tried to adjust a pin on mine that was further out, but my OCD with it got the best of me even though I bent it closer nicely.  So I ended up buying a new edge connector and soldered it in.  Modded the system a bit since the new connector had no support underneath and it plays all games now flawlessly.  I can even knock into the console with the game in and playing and it wont mess up and glitch out.

In the end I regretted messing with the one pin.  I would just suggest cleaning it.

Yeah, I have lots of experience with cartridge based systems but this I have never gotten anything to work right on so thats why Im thinking as a last ditch effort. I would rather see how someone does it because guess work usually comes full circle but Im glad you responded anyways :) I might be on the hunt for another system

I've used a fine crochet hook on my toaster NES's but i've never re-aligned a famicom set of pins as yet. perhaps an inventive soul could make a device for re-aligning famicom pins.
