Anybody know how to properly remove the heatsink of an rp2c03b ppu?
Heatsinks are usually only adhered to the chip with thermal paste, so I'd bet it's just old and dried; 90% or so isopropyl alcohol should loosen it up.
It's epoxy...
Probably heat - like a hair dryer - and a sharp knife would do the trick.
Haha! I got it!
I wrote a guide for the method i used:
Put the PPU in the freezer for about 20-30 min
After it that amount of time, take it out and use some pliers to squeeze the two edges of the heatsink together near the bottom. (where the sink is stuck to the ppu) make sure you do this on both sides.
Due to the epoxy becoming brittle, the heatsink will just pop right off the chip. Make sure you do this over a soft surface so that if the ppu falls it lands safely.
This is the easiest and safest method that i know of.
One of my PPUs shipped to me plugged into a socket. I popped off the heatsink trying to remove the PPU from the socket. ???
