i found a indigo DOL-001 in the trash and have concluded it has water damage but i have no idea how much...is it worth trying to save it or just junk it? when i go to power it up it makes a hissing sound and LED doesn't come on ???
i opened it up and it looks ok inside,no visible corrosion or damage.
i dont know how much a gamecube is really worth anymore i got mine about 10 years ago and it was sub $100 so a non working one without cables is probably gotta be worth next to nothing to most people. That being said no harm in harvesting it for parts you never know the laser and motor might still work so it might be a fun project if u ever find one with a bung drive to do the old swaparoo. Also the controller ports would make for some nice controller hacks but as a non working gamecube i wouldnt even try to fix it.
I've seen junk Gamecubes go for as low as 21 Yen (sic!) here in Japan. ;D
Only you can decide if it's worth the hassle to you. ;)
If the shell is good you can turn it into an art piece or a box or something.
I've learned from washing many a telecommunication device that if you remove the power source and put the electronic components into a bag of rice for a few days the rice will remove any moisture. Don't know if that would work with this though. Google is your friend when it comes to finding repair guides and ifixit is also a rather good page for finding how to repair things that are reasonably new.
hmm i am going to open it up today and play around with the innards.. if all else fails i will sell the GC housing on eBay (although, not sure of the market on those)
