Title: Capacitor list for Famicom AV version
Post by: keropi on October 21, 2013, 01:03:39 am
Hiya!

Anyone happens to know what are the 3-4 capacitors the famicom av version uses? (the Japanese dogbone famicom)
I have started recapping my old consoles and since I am ordering some nice Japanese caps I might as well get some for the famicom that is in the mail for me...
TIA for any info!  :star:

ps. anyone heard about LELON caps? that's all I can find locally. Thinking of ordering nichicon/rubycon/samsung/sanyo ones from ebay - assuming they are good that is... Hopefully I'll find a single seller that has all values I need from known brands...

edit:

Here is the capacitor list for a HVCN-CPU-02 board:

C1  :       1μF  50v
C4  :       1μF  50v
C5  :   220μF 6.3v
C13: 1000μF  25v
C14:     47μF 6.3v
C15:  0,47μF  50v

why do you think that old capacitors aren't working properly?

also it's possible to use ceramic 0.47uF instead of aluminium

bad thing you will spend your money for overpiced capacitors you don't really need and can't feel the differences

switching PSU (or DC-DC converter) is only the place where good brand-named capacitors needed (just because nonamed crap won't last the few months on the load)

I've had some bad caps in md1 and pce , md1 sound was not that good and pce caps were in semi-leaking state... the pce was not in the best of condition when I first got it, had a fail-rgb mod in it.
So I thought I just recap everything sega/nintendo 8/16bit just to be safe, overkill? YES. but I do have free time in winter.
Also need to change the md1 cart slot since it's giving me trouble, waiting for one from tototek.
The pce is already under surgery:

I'll just LELON all of them, too much money to import "branded" caps  ;D

so you're sure about sound improvement of md1. I dunno about md1, but my japan made md2 features only rubycon caps inside and runs more than 20 years without any flaw

some md2 revisions (and mine too) have very noticeably muffled sound. I've just applyied sound mod from tiido  8)

yep, pretty sure... my md1 is a VA6 btw
I also don't remember all of the caps being rubycon, some where no-name ones IIRC
these caps are going away, no turning back now  :mario: :mario: :mario:

since no one replied here I just got the caps that the US toploader uses... hopefully they are the same , I will post a list for future reference once I receive the machine...
in other news the recapping business is going strong  :mario: :mario: :mario:

Lelon caps are of horrible quality, I'd highly suggest getting Nichicon, Panasonic or Nippon Chemi-Con caps to save yourself some trouble.

that's what I thought but it turns out they are fine now (not so good a decade+ ago though), I did some questioning around...
true or not I can't tell...  :-[
for now the sms1, pce and supergameboy I recapped are fine...

I am glad I started recapping my consoles, I have found leaking caps in both my 1CHIP-01 snes and my VA6 megadrive1...
