So I know at least one or two of you here have watched some of my videos on Youtube.
In October I'm moving to Japan for a year and won't have much time to do videos like I used to, so to compensate I spent 5 months preparing
52 reviews of FC, FDS and SFC games to be uploaded once per week starting October 10.

I always watched your Virtual Boy videos. My friend while in Japan bought a ton of SuFami games for cheap, and sent me a bunch. Japan has the best game shops, I would have a blast if I went. Maybe one day. :)
I've watched a few of your videos as well.
I am sure you will have a blast in Japan, I know I did for the short time I was there. If I were living there for any duration of time, I am sure it would be detrimental to my wallet.

A year in Japan sounds great, I never been there more than a half year! :D You might surpass me in Japanese if you practice by talking with people a lot. You already have a pretty solid basic knowledge. I had a friend that studied in Japan for a year in one of those language schools, but all he did was buy manga and video games and sat in his room to play every day. He pretty much only spoke Japanese in class and when going to the convenience store. I probably met more new people in my last three week trip to Japan than he did in a year, and I can be a bit shy sometimes depending on my mood.
You will probably have time to play games too, so don't do it like him. Japanese people are often very excited to befriend foreigners so it's quite easy to make friends once you get to talk with some (memorizing how to introduce yourself is very useful).
Be sure to memorize how to ask for the road and to understand directions (phrases like "○○をさがしているんですが" are indispensable). There's probably a chapter about asking directions in most Japanese text books. If you can do that you will have no problem in finding your way.

Ah Kyoto is great but the summer is as you fear. Luckily there are vending machines everywhere with cold beverages. I went there this summer too, but it wasn't that bad this year due to cloudy weather (actually it was hotter in Sweden this year). It has been raining a lot this summer. The winter is said to be cold in Kyoto but for us Swedish it should be bearable. The problem is that the Japanese houses are not really built for winter and has no central heating so it's much colder indoors in Japan than in Sweden. It's horrible in the morning when you really need to get up, but it's so cold and you never want to leave your warm and comfy futon.
Yeah playing games is something you can do at home, but that said it IS a great place to shop for games, it's not something I have done much the short time I've been there but I did find some neat things in those fabled 100 yen bargain boxes.
Making videos is a great idea I think, I'm looking forward to those. :D

#6 - Kishin Douji Zenki Rettou Raiden (SFC)
Loved that episode, Zenki is my 2nd favorite SFC game after Hagane.
Edit: Though, just to touch on a couple things, you don't have to destroy all the item boxes (??) in each stage, just the red one, and it'll always be in the same place. Also I'm not sure if you were aware of the dash attack (press forward + forward + punch) when you recorded this? It makes the game feel a lot faster paced.
Usually I just wrote down what I knew for the scripts, or played the game some around that time to aquiant myself, and in some cases looked at a FAQ so that I didnt miss any moves you can do etc. But Zenki didnt have a faq and, here we are.
Huh. Maybe I should write it, then.

That guy on youtube seems like a troll btw, I haven't played through the game but I've checked a longplay and there isn't a lot of text in the game at all. It's a non-japanese-friendly game.

I remember getting a loose one ten or fifteen years ago for about $15 and shipping, then more recently found another loose one and at that point was shocked at how high this game now goes. It is one of my favorites, for Famicom, one of the first FC exclusive games I had, so long ago.

This is a game that I think benefits much from the Super Famicom's sample-based sound chip.
I thought the game was based on the manga and not the anime though. The anime changes the style, story and characters considerably.

Splatterhouse such a great game (both the parody game and the original)! I remember there was funny easter eggs in the sound test, but I forgot the details.
Oh you finally got to Kyoto! Now make sure you get out and get your Japanese skills to use. Not like a classmate of mine that did nothing but play video games and read manga for a full year in Japan, learning almost nothing new!
I'd join some language exchange club or something and start making friends.

I'm going to Japan as well very soon for my new job, hopefully they have stocked up on Switches by then. Nintendo are probably producing a lot of them for the Mario Odyssey release. I don't have any hope of finding a SFC Mini though.
You should be able to find a Switch easily - they are churning them out for the holiday season, and I think they've been saving them all year - hence the shortages up till now.

I found this game brand new when I first started collecting and picked it up because I loved the artwork.
Hell of a game - I just wish it had retained its Terminator license because I think it would have made the game even better and been played by so many more people.

I tried Camelto.. ajeoifj Cameltry ;D on the arcades back in the days, I think it used some type of trackball controller if memory is correct? Is a really good game, and I think obviously Sonic The Hedgehog (1st game) utilized the same type of idea when SEGA created the bonus levels (as mentioned in video). Nice video anyway! :)

With all the games I've bought in Japan(I've doubled my SNES/SFC collection for one) I will definately do more, even if they're all relegated to no more than 60-70 views.

Nice videos, I saw several very interesting games I hadn't seen before.
I checked the one with Family BASIC and I want to point out a few details:
Though the keyboard is indeed only supported by Family BASIC and Family BASIC V3, the data recorder portion of the keyboard is supported by a number of games (https://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=5017.0) that can save levels made in the level editor to tapes.
Family BASIC V1 was released. It seems to be a bit less common than V2 and V2.1A but it does appear now and then. AFAIK you can't tell if the black Family BASIC cartridge is a V1, V2 or V2.1A unless you start up BASIC. V3 of course is a different title altogether and has a red cart shell.
There is also a V0 found in a prototype version of Playbox BASIC for the Sharp C1 (https://famicoms.net/blog-entry-3725.html), which predates Family BASIC. The fortune teller in Family BASIC is what remains of the Biorhythm Board found in Playbox BASIC which was removed in favor of the Message Board if I recall correctly. So the fortunes are based on the biorhythmic algorithms used by that board from your birth-date that you enter.
The quite expensive data recorder is indeed just a normal tape recorder. You can use any generic audio equipment that can record sound. UglyJoe recorded some tapes from magazines. You can find them in the Family BASIC Super Thread (https://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=11959.0). It might be easiest to load them in an emulator that supports Family BASIC tapes.
There are USB adapters that supports the keyboard among other Famicom peripherals. One here (https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/fc_to_usb/index.php) and one here (http://2600-daptor.com/Famicom-daptor.htm). Not sure if they can act like a keyboard, but they can be used in emulators like Mesen (probably not the data recorder part though).
