I have Miracle of Arumana. Arumana no kiseki or something? The cart just says "Indiana Jones". Wasn't that FDS only?

Super Mario Bros 2 - The Lost Levels.

I know it appeared later on the Super Famicom, but it was ported to the Famicom from its FDS release.

Yes, I think Super Mario Bros 2 is the most important game that must be mentioned !

I totally forgot about SMB2j. :o Thanks for reminding me.

Don't forget Metroid. That's a game that was ported to a famicom pirate cart as well!

Are you sure? I didn't think it was confirmed. I've seen Metroid on a Famicom cart, but I wasn't sure if it was the FDS version or the NES version.

Oh if the FDS version records the game which  I think it does then it's not. The one I played used passwords....

Wasn't Bio-Miracle Bokutte Upa released as a FDS first?

Yes, but then as a cart. I've never heard anyone say they have a pirate cart that's the same as the FDS version.

I'm under the impression it was one of those crappy FDS games made by Hacker or Super Pig or something. I've never seen the game on cart, so I can't say if it's the same as games by Hacker, etc.

I have a pirate cart of the game Meikyuu Jiin Dababa. As far as i know that game was only released on the FDS and  not the famicom. And on a related note, was Ninja Kun ever released on the FDS? Because I have a pirate disk copy of that game for the FDS.

since it was released officialy on a cart this means it is not FDS-exclusive Game

But it was an FDS-exclusive game, like every other game on this list before it came out on cart.  Plus there are pirate versions of Akumajou Dracula.

It doesn't count as FDS-exclusive because it wasn't exclusive to the FDS...it was officially released on cart. All of the titles in this list were never officially released on cart (so far as we know).

As far as I know the cart version is like the NES version, lacking an easy mode.  So the FDS version is exclusive because no other versions contain these features.

Incorrect.  The Famicom cart version has normal/easy selection at the title screen, the FDS version does not.  The FDS version can save your progress (and has an extra song for the save selection screen), the cart version does not.  There may be some differences in the songs, depending on how much Konami utilized the saw wave in the FDS version.

Ah so I guess there are small differences, but are you sure the FDS version didn't have an easy mode?  I played a FDS ROM with an easy mode and a save feature.

I have a few different roms for the FDS version (1.0, 1.2, and a few 1.2 Hacks).  The hacks that I've played give you 99 hearts and 15 lives and sometimes infinite life, but that's not the same as easy mode (and, you know, is a hack).

I am not sure if it is exactly the same, there is not much of a description. If I had to guess, maybe not because the FDS has the fm synthesis chip the famicom dojo mentions. Other than that, it may be the same. Here's a link to where I found it:

Two of my favorite Japanimation (yes I'm showing my late 80s American Otaku age here with that term) shows Dirty Pair and GAL-FORCE got FDS games.  Does anyone know if someone (an individual) or a pirate company ever put these games on a cartridge format, and if so... whom do I contact for them?  If only FDS, then it looks like a Famicom Twin is in my future.  Wait Times and all.

To my knowledge and according to our list at the front of this thread, no. Never seen them. That doesn't mean they don't exist on cart, as Whirlwind Manu, Kaiser and Lee-Yin ported many disk games.

Glad I used my deductive reasoning to figure out my original thread got absorbed into this one.  Please excuse me not having seen the FDS ported to carts thread.  I'm still new here and some of the more obvious things of that nature go right past me, though I do tend to go back pages to try to avoid starting new threads asking the same questions etc.  Anyhow, thanks for the response, it's good to know those two games in particular might actually exist on cart.

Super Mario Bros 2 - The Lost Levels.

I know it appeared later on the Super Famicom, but it was ported to the Famicom from its FDS release.

So it got an offical cartridge release? I always thought it only got to cartridge form through pirates only...

No all these listed here are pirate ports. So you're original thought was right -- no official SMB2j release on cart.

Title: Re: List of FDS games ported to carts

I just found a Doki Doki Panic cart variation. In what I would think is the oldest version by an unknown company -- probably Whirlwind Manu -- the levels aren't complete, so you have to start at the beginning with each character. In the Kaiser version of the game, all of the levels are completed, so you can skip around from the menu screen.

Pac-Man
Dig Dug
Dig Dug 2
Wrecking Crew
Ice Climber
Donkey Kong
Donkey Kong Jr
Goonies, The
Burgertime
Pinball
Twinbee
Bomberman
Xevious
Galaga
Galaxian
Solomon's Key

All these went from FC to FDS (Disk Writer) -- The opposite of what this thread was intended, but it would be a good list as well.

I am sure there is more, but my mind is drawing a blank.

Since this list is only for FDS-exclusive games that were ported to carts by pirates, why is Akumajou Dracula on the list? (same thing goes for Bio-Miracle).

Title: Re: List of FDS games ported to carts

I think it matters whether the fds game has been found on a pirate cart or if the cart game is on the pirate cart.

I'd like to ask a favor from all FDS ports owners... I'm trying to sort out all things according to FDS ports and I need more info about carts and especially it's PCBs. Since I researched currently, there is more than one version of each game (you know already, there is two doki doki exists, and a lot of SMB2j, but there is at least three Bubble bobbles, two ProWres, two Zanac, two or three Castlevanias...

So, let's find all kind of FDS ports/hacks together and gather more info about it. ;) so please, if someoe is own any FDS ports, take a picture of it's cart's labels (as detailed as possible) and if possible, PCB images too... it will help determine new versions and maybe in futureI can dump, research and release them all...

I'm working currently on gathering as much FDS ports as possible to me, most I own you can seeon my page in collection, some of not mine, but I have it photographed and researched too ;) but there a lot more that I have just now and you can help me out,

Thanks ;)

I have one of the Bubble Bobble FDS ports (the LH31 cart) but I'm pretty sure that one's been dumped already.

Another thing that might be worth noting is that with the Super Mario Party 10 in 1 (or something like that) Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa is actually an MMC3 conversion of an FDS port. ;)

LH31 is a simplified hack of Kaiser version without "KAISER" logo on the There another one version exists, with CHR-ROM instead of CHR-RAM and less PRG data... All three are secured and dumped..

is it a proven fact that the Bouken Roman pirate, actually is Bouken Roman and not a different game?

not proven at all, just in case... if it will be proven non existant, I remove it ;)

The FDS game Nazo no Kabe: Block-kuzushi was ported to carts for a PAL release as Crackout.  I haven't played the cart version for comparison, but it looks like the same game with save system swapped out for a password system.

The legend of Zelda was also a FDS exclusive at one point, but it was re-released as the legend of Zelda 1 in 1994 as a standard famicom cart, using the battery backup technology developed by Nintendo of America. You can even see the naming difference in the title screen:
Zelda for FDS:
Zelda for Famicom:
Is just weird calling the first game in a series number one I guess.

It is weird, but don't forget by this point Zelda 2 had already released - so quite honestly plenty of kids without FDSs could have somehow thought this was a new Zelda game, or so they thought.

Yeah since it was a re-release in a different format it only makes sense to add the 1 to the title.

It's a manual process and not trivial. You might want to disassemble it and learn how it works then rewrite it for an MMC3 mapper or something. In Metroid's case it's already ported though so you may want to take a look at the NES version as well. Metroid uses FDS sound so the sound engine must be modified as well (or rip out the NES one).

If you're more interested in the saving aspect of Metroid, there's a hack that replaces the password system:

I haven't played it myself, though.

My plan was to use the NES version rom of the game and put it on a Famicom cartridge. From what I can tell, I should be able to use Ultima:Exodus as the donor cart and I'd need to do some desoldering/soldering. I appreciate all of the input so far. If I'm saying anything that's just absolutely wrong, let me know lol

Thereís also a Japanese translation patch for the NES version, complete with translated title screen if thatís something that tickles your fancy.

If you use the NES version you don't need to do any porting at all.

I'd still need a donor cart right? Ultima: Exodus is correct?

I don't know much about hardware but from what I can tell from Bootgod's NES Cart Database both games use SNROM (http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/search.php?unif_op=LIKE+`%25%40%25`&unif=SNROM) (MMC1) boards.

Yeah that's what I'm basing it on as well. If it works out, maybe I'll write up a little guide for it?
