From el site updates thread...
"What you see now is a change to the new post/no new post icons. Glass Joe before getting punched is no new post, while Glass Joe after getting punched is a new post!"
Good catch, JL.
8/23/06 -- you're gonna see a few changes happening at the forum. I had an epiphany the other night while surfing Wikipedia, and that is that the only way FW and the forum will be successful is if it's more fanatical. You see, Wikipedia is purely informational and will someday contain all the same information FW will offer. But if we place emotional (fanatical) perspectives on our information, FW will be better than Wikipedia, and the like, and will be a place people want to come back to.
So, expect changes...
What you see now is a change to the new post/no new post icons. Glass Joe before getting punched is no new post, while Glass Joe after getting punched is a new post!
Have any ideas? Let us know in the suggestion board.
Just came on and saw the changes, pretty cool. Like the bricks background. I love the image from the SMB3 commercial that was here before, it just didn't really suit the background of this forum. Love the bricks. ;D
Thanks Slushie!
I liked that Mario Globe image as well, but like you said, it didn't quite work as a background image, because the whole image couldn't really be seen and it was awkwardly tiled.
More will be changing. And if anyone has suggestions, let me know on the suggestions board.
I must say JC is awesome for this background. :D
Yeah, it is a great background. I like how the bricks aren't really big, it suits it nicely at the size they are. Great pick on the background. ;)
Yeah, I love it myself. :)
Done. Thanks, Jedi!
08/24/06 -- Can't miss the new background colors -- let me know what you think...I'm a little unsure of it 'cause it sometimes looks orange and sometimes looks yellow...I wanted it to match the site as much as possible.
I LOVE IT! KEEP IT!
LOL -- glad you both like it. :)
And, everyone, check out the new buttons. The ones on everyone's PM page are my favorite.
Yeah, you're pretty much awesome.

Cool, just came here and saw them, awesome, adds a cool feel. Makes it feel even more like a Famicom Forum. ;D Great work on all of this JC.
9/3/06:
Made a new "Banned" group, for people who get banned. Thankfully, we haven't had that problem yet...
08/08/06 -- ok dudes...I put up a new header image for the forum. I'm unsure of whether or not I like it. It's less distracting that the black one that was up, but still seems to be missing something...let me know what you think -- and yes, those are muddied Mr. Disks!
That's the avant-garde style of it, dude. Ask vealchop...he's the advertising buff.
No, the letters were all the same size before. I thought that was boring.
http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=166.0
Yeah, it covers only half of the top of the screen on my FireFox.
Let me know what you all think: vealchop's forum logo or just stick with the old one?
The new one is AWESOME! Love it!
Good. It'll stay, then. I certainly like it more than the muddied Disk-kuns, which were actually just an accident and something I couldn't figure out how to fix. Hehe.
Cool guys, glad ya like! If you have any cool ideas you'd like to see let me know!
Everything you see on the forum is .gif. That's what SMF 1.0.7 requires. The muddiness was a problem I probably could have fixed had I tried a little harder. I think it was a conversion problem. Now that I have Photoshop, conversion shouldn't be an issue.
It's cool. It has a nice retro feel to it. :)
11/05/06 -- note the boards' reorganization. Makes more sense to me this way, but if anyone's got any problems with it, let me know.
11/12/06 -- forum updated from 1.0.7 to 1.0.8; we're still working on 1.0.9.
Um. Didn't quite make it to 1.0.9 -- so soon enough we'll update again. All's a go for now. Let us know if you find any problems with 1.0.8.
You'll have to give me more details. Or maybe I'll just acquire FireFox to see for myself.
Ok. Dowloaded Firefox. Looks to be some sort of conflict between SMF forums and Firefox, not particular to the FW forum. I say that because Nintendo City, which uses the same brand, has the same problem.
I'll search for a cure. ;)
Am I the only one who uses Firefox and has no trouble with the forums?
Maybe you've got an older/newer release than Jedi and myself. ???
Mine automatically installs every new Firefox update that comes out.
Awesome job!

When are you going to fix the problem with Firefox? It's still weird.
I think it's been fixed! :) Jedi?
Yes, I had to go into the code and restore it to the original settings, which had been manipulated early on to make the border orange via a background image instead of just orange color fill. It wasn't working on the newest version (2.0?) of Firefox, which is what I had downloaded to view it.
Thanks - appreciate it. :)
I finally put up a link to Famicom World in the top menu bar. I also got rid of the Help button. I don't think anybody actually used the Help button anyway.
Let me know if you all find any glitches as a result of the changes!
So cool!
Wedged between Home and Search. ;)
I added a feature to the forum...it'll get its test run tomorrow. Just a little thing. :)

is today your bday??? Happy bday if it is!
Thanks, man. I appreciate it. :D
Did something just get changed with the login procedure? I tried logging in wrong then had to wait 10 seconds to log in again. Did it always have this wait?
Nothing's changed. There's always been that feature. It's supposed to help stop spam attacks. :)

Which we've been getting way too much lately. So, JC set up a new registration way. Activation by Admins.
Tell you what, JL. The spamming has stopped for the last few days. If we get a couple more, though, I'll be sure to set up registration by admins.
So you also have spam problems? :'( What is it with those spammers.
At the other forums where I'm admin we had to implement admin authorisation for new members, because of tons of spam. Now I have Up to 30 "activate new member" mails in my mailbox every day.
It's really annoying. :(
Good luck with the forums, anyway.
After I finished my thesis I hope to be around here more often again. ;D
I like Famicom World.
Yeah, we're doing admin activation over here, too. The spamming gets annoying, but sometimes you can catch the spammers before they register.
How do you do that?
We tried to disallow certain names and email addresses, but the number of those is infinite, so you can't ban all.
If you have any tips, those would be greatly appreciated.
Actually, we're not doing admin activation yet. We're doing new member self-activation. It seems to have at least slowed down the spammers. We were getting about three a week for a while, but it has been almost none since instituting self-activation. I hope we don't have to do admin activation.
The only tip I can give, and it isn't much of one, is to have mods who spend a lot of time on the forum. Or at least have mods that'll guarantee there's almost always a mod online. We've been able to delete spam posts pretty quickly.
Lately we had about 3 spammers a day who'd post between 18 and 21 random sex messages. That was annoying.
And then there were lots of others who posted 1 or 2 messages. It got overhand, so we had to do admin activation.
Unfortunately the site owner of our forums isn't interested in it any more, so we can't implement many changes. We 2 admins can only do as much as the phpbb menus let us do. :(
Weird...I've been going to the admin center and have been able to activate accounts...I always thought we were doing that.
Oh. Um. I know I never set it up to do admin activation, just member self-activation...but I'm sure it also allows you to activate accounts.
The first attempt at updating the forum didn't go so well. So, please, if you find any errors, let us know immediately. For instance, I was forced to reset my password. Don't know why.
The forum is still in the process of being updated. By tomorrow night, the forum should be fully updated.
Note that tomorrow the forum will be shut down, likely for an hour or two, while I make the final change to the new version.
Just a reminder everyone that it'll soon be time to upgrade again. If you're wondering why so soon, it's because our lazy butts took so long to upgrade before. :P
No, no...it's not our fault. :P SMF discovered bugs and updated their files, passing them on to us for an update.
"Suggestions" board is now merged with the "Updates" board into the "Updates and Suggestions" board. We decided that the "Suggestions" board was too slow (no posts since Aug. 1) to be its own board.
Good idea
10/27/07 -- Updated the forum to the newest version...maybe it'll help get rid of the missing posts bug.
5/12/08 -- Updated the forum...probably nothing noticeable, but SMF asked me to update it.
Forum was just updated. If you notice any bugs, let me know...
I'm back from the... erm, absence I took last March. :o
In all seriousness, I thought that since I've come back (Personal reasons for leaving, FYI) I may as well spring a new leaf. In essence, a new username. Nice to see so many new faces, now! I want to say hello to anyone I haven't met yet. :)
wow the famous famicom JL is now Doc :O
Welcome back! :)
I thought you had been banned from the site! Glad to hear that you're active again! ;D
Where did you hear that he had been banned? ::)
I think nothing like that has ever been posted... :P
Maybe I WAS banned... ;)
I don't think so...at least not until we update the design. I don't see the point.
Well, there's Doc...

When we relaunch, in due time. :) Until then we have some work to do, so let's get cracking, everyone! :)
Hey Doc what's up???
FamicomFreak!! Not much going on right now, though.
So why the name, Doc? Did you earn yourself a Ph.D?
Not sure if this came up yet. :-\

A reference no one will get, so I won't bother explaining it. ;)
Oh , Ant-Man! :D
A quick update about two changes:
1. I am no longer a mod or admin for FW. I've gotten too busy with everything else in life to keep up with the day-to-day conversations here. I'll check in as often as I can. (No, I'm not selling any games from my collection.)
2. We've brought on a new mod to help out: Nintendodork. Thanks to our new mod for taking on the task. It'll be fun.
Thanks...
Whoa, can regular members see this topic? I never noticed it as a regular member.
But MD, if you're asking if he'll be on the staff again, he won't be any time soon.
This isn't the staff board, so everybody can see it.
The staff board is only visible to admins, mods and contributors.
I don't think I'll ever be as involved in FW as I used to be. I don't have the time and certainly won't anytime soon.
That sounds like a thread, not a board.
There is a thread along those lines actually - something like 'What got you into Famicom?' In the main FC/FDS forum. Check it out! :). I'd link to it here but I'm on iPad it's a little tricky.
Please explain this:
The message is in regards to your password, not in regards to Famicom World. The message means that some site, somewhere, was breached and some user (either you or someone else with the same password) was in their database and that the password is now compromised. It is a security feature of Chrome:
https://security.googleblog.com/2019/12/better-password-protections-in-chrome.html (https://security.googleblog.com/2019/12/better-password-protections-in-chrome.html)
There is no evidence of Famicom World having been breached, so it seems like it was another site.
You can safely check your password against a database of compromised passwords here: https://haveibeenpwned.com/Passwords (https://haveibeenpwned.com/Passwords).
