Title: Hey, go vote today!
Post by: Epic_Lotus on November 06, 2012, 08:03:13 am
If you're 18 and live in the US   ;)

I went for the early voting option two+ weeks ago.  Now I get to just kick back and watch the numbers roll in tonight.

I'm really happy that I'm seeing so many messages on forums and Facebook telling others to vote. It seems like it's happening way more this year than it was four years ago...or maybe I'm just paying more attention this time. :P I wish I were a year older. It would benefit me in so many ways...

I voted! If I can help it, I don't want to miss voting in any election.

Yeah, the one time my voter information gets all screwed up!

Actually, I've been shanked on every single presidential election, come to think of it. ???

I'm 2/2 in presidential elections  :). I can't believe that the youth vote was bigger this time around than last, makes me proud of my generation.

I'm a little bit surprised by some of the results, to be honest.  For example, Wisconsin going for Obama (and Tammy Baldwin, the Dem senator candidate) was a bit of a shocker considering how much the state has gone Red over the Governor and the union disputes.

That said, reflecting back on the last few months, Romney really did have a number of high profile gaffes.  In today's media-crazed world, you just can't do that kind of thing.  The 47% comment is probably what cost him the election in the end.

But hey, at least Paul Ryan got his old job back!   :-[

I think more than anything it was an election about demographics. Romney proved that no one can win with such extremely low support among minorities, young people, and women. Old white men just don't have the power they used to.

Yeah, they were already talking yesterday about how the GOP is going to have to seriously reevaluate its strategy in the coming years because its going to be obsolete as the Latino population becomes the ethnic majority in the country.

That turned me off. So apparently I'm no good because I'm a veteran who served in Iraq who's now on financial assistance going to college? ???

But, yeah, whatever. I won't hold him up to that one mistake.

You went to Iraq?  That's something I didn't know about you.  Really glad with the result in the end, even though I'm not American it affects a lot of global events as you can imagine and after the Gee-Dub atrocities (TWICE) it's good to have some sense shine through again.

Which is probably the other major reason Obama got in again.  America is still limping after what happened during those 8 years.

At a guess, Bill Clinton + Monica Lewinski soured the country to Democrats in the early 2000's.  That gave us a two term Republican president... who drove the country into two wars.  That, arguably, soured the country on Republicans and has given us a two term Democrat president... who's crapping all over the economy and national debt.  Republican again in 2016?  I guess we'll see.

I think the economy is being dragged OUT of the crap after the banking fiasco - which has been in the works for nearly a decade, so it will take time for sure.

However I don't to get political when I don't even live in the US, I think youre voting decisions logic flow pretty much sums it up though.

The economy is a matter of perspective, in some regards.  It's true the US has come out of a recession, but if you read about some of the forthcoming initiatives put into place by the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), it's looking likely to take the economy back into a downturn.  A lot of it is up for debate, I guess, but we'll find out one way or another starting in 2014.
