Title: my solution to a loose Famicom "Crazy Climber" cart

I got my hands on a loose Famicom "Crazy Climber" cart but not the joy pad adapters that originally came with it.  My solution?  Two NES Advantage sticks!  Works great and makes game play feel kind of like the original arcade cabinet.  :)

Never knew the game originally came with pad-to-faux-arcade-stick adapters, or that you'd need two controllers to play it. Wikipedia says "The Family Computer version had a special controller that could be used with it.", is that referring to the adapters or is there an actual controller with two control sticks? I can easily imagine the latter being true, seeing how the FC had plenty of specialized controllers.

Been playing/collecting Famicom for years and still I find new cool stuff like this.

Crazy Climber is a unique and interesting title. I have a copy, but I haven't gotten used to the bizarre controls. I think the GameFAQs summary I read recommends taking your two controllers and turning them 90 degrees (so that the left button of the D-pad is pointing up) and playing like that. I found that helpful, but it's still very challenging to play a game that requires two controllers. I'd definitely like to get the hang of it, as I could see myself really getting into this game.

I feel the same exact way with Smash T.V.

I've got a CB copy of Crazy Climber. The box is a bit longer than other boxes, since it has the cart with the plastic insert, as well as the yellow box (seen above) containing the controller attachments.

I've played more of Smash TV than I have Crazy Climber. That one isn't quite as tough. If I recall right, the one controller is affecting how you move and the other affects the direction that you shoot. Even if I'm screwing up with my directional shooting, I can still run for my life.

With Crazy Climber, each D-pad affects the movement of one of your climber's hands. So when my rhythm was messed up, I was basically stuck in place. Which means I'm dead in the water, since I can't dodge all the things trying to bump me off the side of the building to my death.

This is a good idea (I guess). I wonder, do the climber sticks work well with other games?

They are not original climber sticks though. Personally I don't need them since I have arcade sticks.
