If Infinity was released, then I would have bought that. Unfortunately, it wasn't, so I'm looking for Gameboy/Gameboy Color RPGs, in English, but Japanese is fine as well. I know about Crystalis (but the fans of the original game hate it), and the Squaresoft renamed-to-Final Fantasy games. So, any suggestions?

P.S.: No Pokemon games please. I will only play them if Hell freezes over.

Dragon Quest 1 & 2 is a good RPG for the Game Boy color.

oh that's easy there were a series of hit games called Pok- oh wait. Non Pokemon? Uh...........well the GBC also had Dragon Warrior Monsters  ::)

In all seriousness, cutting out the Pokemon games severely limits you. Try Final Fantasy Legend 3 (SaGa 3) on the original GB.

Not to mention Pokemon has several things that most RPGs don't.  Up to Gold/Silver/Crystal, there are 251 usable characters, and even if you have two of the same character, they will never be exactly the same, allowing you to customize them in any way you choose.

Dragon Quest / Dragon Warrior III is also ace - very nice once you've completed the others.  Also a nice Star Ocean RPG, plus a ton of JApanese RPGs for the original if you can read them.

I wouldn't bother with Pokémon, try something different.

Best RPG I ever played was Guadia Quest on Retro Game Challenge for DS.  It would work on a GBC, if it ever got built for it I'd hail it the best RPG ever :)

Okay, I'll think about this Pokemon series. The two reasons why I hate it is because of the fans, with their horrendous fanfiction and fanart, and it always seems to be repeating itself, gameplay and story-wise. Maybe I'll buy this Star Ocean RPG.

If you've never really played Pokemon, definitely go for either Gold, SIlver, or Crystal.  I consider those the best games in the entire series.  That fanart/fiction thing applies to pretty much every video game.  It's just a lot more popular with Pokemon because Pokemon is a popular series.  If you give it a try, I'm sure you'll enjoy it at least a little bit. :)

I'm not into RPGs but  I've considered playing Sword of Hope after finding out it was another Kemco/Seika development (the ones who did Shadowgate!)

Sword Of Hope? Looks more interesting. Maybe I'll buy that instead.

Omg! A Gameboy Kemco/Seika game? That looks absolutely amazing, I cannot believe that I hadn't heard of it until now. It uses all the classic sound effects, layouts and dissolves; so cool!

why no pokemon? its actually a very good, intense, and involving game
FUCK YEAH SEAKING!

Given that most of us here loved pokemon when we were younger, and you "hate" it now, I doubt you'll enjoy it as much as us. Also, I hate fan fiction as much as the next guy, but that shouldnt affect your opinion about the game,

You're right. It's too slow a game. Tried it yesterday.

P.S.: I did break this, didn't I?

Well, it was the only exception.

Which one did you try? How far did you get?

Pokemon Red. I wanted to try the original first. Got as far as Vermilion City.

P.S.: Maybe it isn't that slow, but slow nonetheless. Also, the graphics are bland, but I guess that's because it's the first, and because it was released on the Gameboy.

P.P.S.: Shouldn't have mentioned Pokemon. Didn't know many people like it.
