Famicom 3d - Is it worth getting.

Is the famicom 3d worth getting or is it basically like its headache make counterpart the virtual boy?

Don't know a huge lot about it but it only seems to work with certain games etc. so was wondering is it limited etc. I know rad racer for example was released with 3d glasses instead in the states on the nes counterpart.

Love to hear people's opinions.

It's never given me any headaches, but then neither did the Virtual Boy.

There's only six games for it -- four carts and two disks.

I personally like the 3D effects in Cosmic Epsilon and Highway Star, although they are non essential to the gameplay.  The effect for me is more like "looking out into the distance" rather than "omg it's flying right at me".  So, it's subtle rather than in your face.  Mixing that sort of effect with 8-bit graphics is an aesthetic I really enjoy.

It probably comes down to personal preference as to whether you'd like it or not.  I would recommend it, but make sure you get it for a good price.

Ever used a Virtual Boy?
Only people who neglected to read the instructions ended up with headaches because the unit needs to be aligned with the IPD to match your pupil specific centering in your eyes...

Hey, Thanks for the reply.....

I imagine il need help reading the Japanese instructions, ha ha, yeah have the full vb  set. Great machine but even if you've it aligned they reckon it can give headaches after an hour + of gameplay apparently. Haven't experienced them myself either though.

i have never gotten a headache, and I have literally played my Virtual Boy for 3+ hours straight without a break.

I'm actually not sure what they go for.  I got mine with two 3D games for $26 shipped.  So...I wouldn't spend more than $30 shipped, with one of the 3D games included.  Maybe I'm way off base with that pricing, though

I prefer the 3D system to the VB. The red&black on the VB is depressing to look at...
Having said that, I have played the VB for 6 hours straight on a day (teleroboxer), with the result that I was nauseated the next day, but I haven't found any games on the 3D system worth playing that long.

I think the VB is uncomfortable to play, but I've never had a headache from it.  Hunching my back is what hurts if anything.

Surprised to hear you don't like the red and black though, thats the whole reason I got it - the 3D is just a bonus.  I haven't played with Famixom's 3D system, despite owning two, I should get on it, especially with Cosmic Epsilon on the way.

That topic shows seven games, Uglyjoe. 4 cassettes and 3 disks.
From that list, I played only one using the gadget: Falsion.
It's not like "WOW it blew my mind", but I liked it.
The look and feel of the 3D glasses are great still today. It's very "B-movies-future-like", which I just love!   
My only complaint is that I bought one years ago and it never worked. And I never found anybody who knew how to fix it.
I plan to get a working one. Someday.

The seventh game (Tobidase Daisakusen) had a 3d mode, but it doesn't use the 3d system.

Even though there is only like 6 games. Wouldn't it be like amazing if we could play any famicom/nes game on them?I would be awesome if a homebrewer ported a ton more games to it.

I've had my eyes on one for a long time now, definately getting one eventually. Didn't see any in Japan but I did buy cosmic epsilon so I think I should. Also Falsion looks very cool.

Falchion is the only 3D title I own for Famicom and while it'*s a pretty cool game imo, the ghosting I get makes it really hard to aim at anything when playing in 3D. Though I heard the other games should be better.
