Everdrive Famiclone Compatability

I'm looking to buy an Everdrive, but only have a relatively uncommon famiclone. I don't want to deal with the hassle of a return if it isn't compatible, but I've read that it has a pretty high compatibility rate.

If there are compatibility issues, what are they, commonly? Would it be more typical for complete incompatability, or would it be like, not handling some mappers well?,

Also, what exactly about famiclones would cause such issues? Is it something I could check from the system before buying?

Generally it just won't boot at all, showing a blank or garbled screen.  Modern clones generally use NOAC (NES-on-a-chip) blobs rather than separate CPU/PPU chips that don't implement some of the hardware features that flashcarts rely on.  There are different versions of them though, so some Famiclones are compatible.  What make/model is yours?

Thanks for the response. I've been meaning to chime back in here.

The Famiclone I have is called the Couple Perfection. It's a very rad Korean famiclone from 2007 with a respectable amount of built-in games and a Korean menu to navigate game titles. I've been playing it for two years or so.

Everdrive received (official, ordered directly from krikkz on his black Friday as the only official Korean distributor has a ridiculous mark up).

The cartridge slot was tight, and when I got the cart in, it booted fine, but after 5-10 seconds, it started displaying vertical bars between every background tile, and upon loading a game, also between every sprite tile. Put another cart in to make sure I hadn't damaged the connectors and eventually removed the top shell to make getting the Everdrive cart in easier. Couldn't get it to load without vertical bars again.

So, conclusion (for anyone that may Google compatibility in the future): The Couple Perfection loads games from an Everdrive N8 but displays them with graphical glitches.

Eventually ordered an AV Famicom from senseiman and the Everdrive works wonders.

That's a really nice clone, love the controllers :D

Shame it doesn't work with the Everdrive, it sounds like a pin connection issue, but it seems you checked that out pretty thoroughly.  The only other thing (beyond simple incompatibility) I can think of is that it's not getting enough power - how many amps does the adapter provide?  The Everdrive draws much more current than a standard cart, so perhaps if you can find a beefier adapter it might work.

Surprisingly, I'm using the same power adapter for it and the AV famicom. But yeah, it's on the low-end of the accepted spectrum.

The controllers are great. I haven't tried the light gun with the AV fami, but the joysticks work through the 15-pin port on the side. The extra buttons are kind of overkill, but include turbos and page-scroll buttons for the built-in game list. Annoying though that B is labeled A and vice versa. I wonder if the company used the same molds for other systems, maybe megadrive clones (master system and megadrive were both slightly more popular here it seems)
