Best & Worst Megaman games

I've played almost all the Megaman games and here are my 2 cents on the best and the worst.

BEST

Megaman 2, Megaman 3, Megaman X, Megaman Battle Network 2

I've only played Star Force 1 and it wasn't any better than the Battle Network series in my opinion, and the ZX games are both more or less ok. The Zero series is better but I haven't played them enough
to say any of them are among the best.

WORST

Megaman 1 and 3 on PC are the worst by far. Then come the Wonderswan ones and the one on Gamegear.
But the two I like the least that are among the main ones made by Capcom are Megaman 8 and Megaman X8. With Megaman 8 its mostly because I H-A-T-E the jetboard-levels. That alone ruins an
otherwise decent game. With X8 its more diverse. Annoying stages, worse graphics and X7 and a Sigma stage where they resorted to the lazy "spikes everywhere"-school of design.

Opinions being what they are though, I bet you guys have other ones. Let's hear 'em.

Best for me is Rockman 2, with the original Rockman Zero a close follow up and then Rockman Forte just after that.  I actually really like Rockman 8, despite its faults.

Worst for me discounting the funky ports (a bad port isn't necessarily a bad game) is Rocckman EXE Battle Chip GP.

Most unattractive for me is Rockman X Command Mission, or the Starforce stuff.  Just why Capcom?   :blinky:

Best: Mega Man 2,3,X2,X3

Worst: Battle Network Series

Raverrevolution

Megaman 2 is also my favorite.

The formula was just perfect in that game.  Gameplay that improved on the first, great catchy music, and a good challenge.  The only thing I would change is that one Wily stage where you have to use Crashman's weapon on the wall things.

DDCecil

3 is my favorite, followed by 2 and X2.

8 was a chore to me (especially the Freeze Man Ice Surfing parts), though I know many people enjoy it.

I only ever got into the NES games, but out of those 2 is definitely my favourite. As for least favourite, I'd probably say 4 just because it's mostly underwhelming compared to the previous games IMO.

Personally I love the Battle Network series and consider them the best.

All the platformer ones are more or less meh to me because they are overly hard and don't really offer much of a story.
Here are a few games I am looking for right now
Super Puzzle Fighter II X (Sega Saturn)
GeGeGe no Kotarou (Sega Saturn)
Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Sega Saturn)
KiKi KaiKai (PC Engine) (CIB)
Puzzle Bobble (Super Famicom) (CIB)

Nightstar699

Favorite: 1, 6, Rockman & Forte

Least favorite: 2, the Game Boy version of 3

I prefer the more hardcore-minded design style of Rockman 1 more than any of the others. 2's design bores more a bit more than the rest, and I find most the music pretty obnoxious, combined with the piss-poor weapon balance + terrible final boss fight and it goes to the bottom of my personal tier list.

I've only really played MM Classic, and a few of the X games.
So ends another chapter in the glorious legend of the Ninja... Until next time...

Retrospectives

Number 1 will always be my favourite. It makes so much sense. The music is perfect, the boss pattern is perfect and it's historical story from first being planned to be released as an arcade game is just a very interesting story for novelty reasons. But it was my first and only official Rockman game, so for me personally I will say Rockman 1, or only Rockman if you wish.

It's funny how they made the sequel "under the table" but from a gameplay standpoint I think that Rockman 1 was more balanced (not easier but balanced). With Rockman 2 you can basically just beat Metal Man and slash your way through the enemies but I really think that it is indeed a worthy sequel and I can really understand why so many people love it.

The third game is where I think things went funny. Hard Man? He looks like a dustbin, but for sure, most of the games are solid as action platformers but later titles that were released after the FC era I don't really know much about.

Even though I have never played it, I have seen that it was released as LCD version from Tiger Electronics ahaha. That must be the worst version? But the worst version I have played in person is probably some of the titles in between 1-6, none of them are really that bad I think so I cannot decide.

I love Battle & Fighters for the NeoGeo Pocket Color due to the charm in the sprites. Wish it had received a full game. In fact, in that very short period of time of interaction between SNK and Capcom prior to SNK's bankruptcy, I had always hoped that we would see an NGPC Rockman game developed by the team that did the Metal Slug NGPC titles (which are also my favorite Metal Slugs).

Great Hierophant

I find it ironic that of all the Mega Man games I have played, I like Mega Man 2 for the NES the best and Mega Man 2 for the Gameboy the least.  A unique sentiment I'm sure. :o

FAMICOM_87

my favorites are Rockman 1 and 3 for famicom
(Rockman 1 for famicom and Megaman 2 for game boy  are from my childhood  :D )
but the best thing ever is this hack Rockman 4 MI !  :o

I do not like mega man X series, only classic ones (8bit)  :)

and the worst are DOS Mega man games 1 and 3 :(  , but they are not from capcom  :-[

I played Mega Man one as a kid on NES and it had everyone in my class going mad for it, funnily enough it didn't even feel that difficult back then.

But this game right here, is the one I probably have fondest memories of.  I played it to death in the emulation days as 'Mega Man 9' and grabbed the GBA release as soon as it was released.

Still the one of the best Rockman games for me and even the best SNES games, I like it so much I bought it twice over on SNES and twice over now on GBA too.
