Dunno if this thread will catch on or not, but I thought it might be interesting just to see some writing assignments from other people on this forum (so each post will be fairly long :-X).  I'll start: You have to say what class the assignment is for, what the topic is, and post your paper.

English 10, a letter to Santa (:P)  (Note: Our teacher told us that we didn't have to portray ourselves, and that we could act as anyone and any age as long as you were old enough to write legibly, so since most of the kids in my class are going to act as small children, I figured I'd be different and take the opposite route.  This paper was written in a typewriter font.)

Dear Mr. Claus,

Hello.  My name is Tyler.  I'm 116 years old, and I'm dying.  Ever since I was born in the great year of 1893, I've participated in both World Wars, and the Vietnam War.  I only fought in the World Wars, but I was behind the scenes at Vietnam.  Surprisingly, I wasn't shot at all in World War I, and only suffered minor wounds in World War II.  However, when I was in 'Nam, I was shot in the right leg seven times, and in the left arm twice.  This has damned me to an accursed wheelchair ever since then, and now, as I lay in my deathbed, I want you to carry out my dying wish...list.  All I want for Christmas is a packet of fresh blood, a glass of orange juice (no pulp), and a butter sandwich, and I want it by 4:00PM on Christmas day, because that's when I eat my supper.

As stated in my first paragraph, I've seen many things throughout my world-record of a life, and what I saw in those wars proved to me that literally anything IS possible, which is why, after all these years, I still believe in you, dear Mr. Claus.  At times, this world has been very cruel to me, but it has also been very forgiving, which is why my dying wish list is a very simple one.  I know that all of these things are available at the hospital I currently reside in, which doesn't make it very hard for you.  So, as I close this letter, I would like to say that I applaud you in your efforts throughout the years here in America, and that I was here for almost all of them so far.  This is probably going to be my last letter I ever write, which is why I'm writing it on the only thing I have left of my childhood; my typewriter that I got for Christmas many years ago.  This will also probably be my last Christmas, and I would like to hope that it's a special one.

Yours truly,
Tyler Meyer

;D "...behind the scenes at Vietnam...and [were] shot in the right leg seven times, and in the left arm twice."  How does that happen when you're behind the scenes? Must not be too far behind them...  :P

I originally planned to turn this into some crazy writing in which the old man's thoughts slowly deteriorate by writing about flashbacks of the wars, and then the letter would end with him wishing to just get out of the hospital and go help him do what he thought was right, but then I figured I should keep it contained a little bit. :D

I'm a history major, so I write a ton. I'll spare you of posting 15+ page research papers though. My semester just ended and I wrote three research papers:
-The Colonial Legacy and its Impact on Nigerian Politics
-A Causal Link Between the Soviet War in Afghanistan and the End of the Cold War
-The Arab Invasion of Egypt and its Drastic Changes to Egyptian Society

This probably all sounds boring to people who aren't history nerds though.  8)
