So, as some may know, I finally bought my Sega Saturn.  but the drive door sort of works in reverse... Normally you press the button, and it slowly rises up.  Instead, if you happen to manually pull the lid up, it works in reverse.  it slowly proceeds down to the console... So, It's not borken, but it's annoying that it works in reverse.  It sucks to have to put an elastic band on the lid every time I close it, just so I can open it next time.  It worked fine yesterday, and the console works great, but the lid just decided to start working in the opposite fasion... Help.

There should be some kind of spring jammed in there where the door hinges at the top of the case (underneath the door, such that there's a constant slight pressure trying to open the door).  It sounds like that spring is missing.  I'm assuming that when the door is "slowly proceeding down to the console" that it's simply gravity doing the work and not some other rogue spring.

Probably you'll have to find a suitable spring to replace the one that's missing (or maybe it's just knocked loose and all you have to do is re-seat it).

Also note that it's been about 4 years since I've last seen a Saturn, so I'm basing this off of memory and how other cd-doors work.

I thought gravity too, well it is, but wouldn't the door be completely limp then?  I mean, rather than proceeding slowly back, it should fall shut fast... Anyways I'll look for a spring.

There could be some resistance at the hinge -- enough to slow it down, but not enough to keep it open.

Okay, decided whatever.  I opened it up to look.  There was a paper clip type thing that had 2 ened sticking out; one had a hook on it, the other was just straight.  The hook thing just goes arounfd this corner of the door, and the other one goes into these little divets to cause it to spring up.  Fixed :)

You can lock this thread now as there is no use for it.
