I'm interested in buying this game from an eBay seller, but all it has is the case with paper sleeve and the disk. Did this game come with a manual or outer box? I'm not going to pay $45 for just a bare disk....

It's disk writer. I dont think it had a manual or box.

Edit: comes with foldout manual. Thanks for reminding me.

Even disk writer versions and disk writer exclusives came with a foldout manual.

Brain Breaker

It included a paper sleeve, outer plastic case and fold-out manual. I've attached a pick of what a complete one would look like.

I've got the PAL version of this one, and the gameplay changes make it much more playable.

You are talking about Mario Bros Classic Series from 1993 right? It's a PAL exclusive version of Mario Bros with the sprites from the arcade version just like Kaettekita and also physics from Kaettekita (the possibility to change direction in midair). But it doesn't contain those menus and cutscenes from Kaettekita. Instead it has in-game how to play demos kind of like the arcade version's attract screen demo so basically it's a version of Mario Bros that's more true to the arcade original but with better physics.

It's just called "Mario Bros" I think.  http://bootgod.dyndns.org:7777/profile.php?id=2137

Kaettekita in whatever form is worth getting, it is the superior original Mario Bros. release.

It's not the pal version really. It's just a pal exclusive version of Mario Bros and doesn't contain anything that doesn't already exist in other versions.

Oh you are right. It's part of a re-release series known as the Classic Series but the title is just Mario Bros. Yeah Kaettekita seems to be the better version with cool new music and additional game modes.

I was interested in buying this too, then I tried the rom and it seems to play exactly like the pulse-line version? What's the difference, apart from some new graphics in the menus and stuff?

Here is the PAL version that I have: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/getinfo.pl?ID=E-027-S-03750-A

P explained it pretty well above. The physics are similar to Super Mario Bros. in that you can adjust your jump while in the air. It's really the best home version of Mario Bros. in my opinion. It isn't terribly expensive either, I grabbed it from eBay in Germany a while back.
