On YAJ, a Pc Engine Duo (at least the -R) is from 10,000 yen and up (if working). That's around the same price as on eBay. Those here who are in Japan, do you have an idea how much it would cost to buy it in Japan?

Got a regular DUO for I think it was about 6000yen came with the wires and a controller.

Saw a DUO-R before and it was over 10,000yen.

fredJ

Okay,

I wonder why the DUO is more expensiv, isn't the -R a sort of budget version? But the -R was released two years later and perhaps had a better construction so it lasts longer.

Still quite expensive...
Perhaps you could let me know if you find a working DUO for 5,000 yen or so? I'd be interested.

Do you personally think it is worth to buy one? I know in Sweden there are a few followers.

From my experience you can't use logic to explain why some things are more expensive or cheap in Japan.  :D It's just totally irregular.

I'm always looking around for hardware and I noticed that at least in my region and online prices for many pieces of hardware have gone up in the past 2 years.
All PC-Engine DUO units I know of cost more than 9800 Yen right now.

BUT! I'm pretty sure that if you look around a lot (especially in bigger cities) you should be able to find one for 5000 Yen or less. (But the thing is, if anybody finds a console for that cheap they probably wouldn't want to sell it without a profit.  :coin: ) (I think I only paid like 1500 Yen for my Duo-RX with all hookups. That was an awesome deal.)

Any Duo system will be fairly expensive since they play both HuCards and CD games. The Duo-R is a revised version of the original system, and is much more reliable than the original Duo; the original Duo is known for having capacitor issues that affect the audio.

fredJ

Yea, it is too expensive and the machines aren't good enough. I will look at Sega Saturn instead.

What do you mean by not good enough? It can't hook up the internet so you can check mail and buy netflix movies?

I think you should drop the sarcasm.

To answer the question: Pc Engine (cd-rom) is prone to break, the games aren't much better than famicom/sfc, and the whole system is confusing.

Everything breaks, and when that happens we will just have to repair it. Like my former boss said to me. Maintain, maintain, maintain. That means you just have to take care of your stuff. That is nothing in comparison to expensive. Expensive is like buying a 60 footer boat and then watching it sink in the middle of nowhere. Are you going to cry over the boat, no your just going to get another one eventually. Anything could break, imagine the person holding a baby, and then falling down a stairs with that kid.

Just how many games on the PCE have you played and how is it confusing? Just get a Duo-R and you're set, no confusion there.

2A03 is right.
As long as you have a Duo R or RX you are set. Mine played everything I tried without any problems.  :pacman:
