hi everyone! (I remind you that I am French and I use my few skills in English and google trad ^ ^)

I just finished modify a Famicom (by following this link: http://jpx72.detailne.sk/modd_files/fc/avmod.htm but I did not follow step 6 because it's too hard for me), it works very good (but there're still too many jailbars ...). I also have a Famicom AV, and I make a comparison, I wanted to know if this was normal
- on the AV Famicom (the true^^), the picture is very clear but the colors are a little dark, as if there was a constrate low or slight color saturation,
- while on the Famicom modified, the image is a bit blurry (which has its charm) but the colors are much nicer!

Is this normal?

Thank you all!

Before i give scientific explanation, lets other modders chance to talk ::)
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

No other answers ^ ^ I want an explanation so well if you do not mind!

1)Grey Famicom have low pass filter made of FB and capacitor, which helps to hide "jailbars"
2)Grey Famicom have different PCB layout and most likely different matrial(at least not that aged)
3)Grey Famicom might have rev H PPU
4)AV mod does not have any of above
5)"blury" picture on AV mod is actually EMI("jailbars" plus others) on pin21

Again, "jailbars" are EMI from traces around pin21 and power rails.
Again, all pins as short as possible, proper ground and capacitors on power rails.
That's all.

Ok I understand. I was just asking this question because I thought it was my AV Grey Famicom had a "problem" because the colors were darker than the Famicom Red and White. Without the AV mod, when we connect the Famicom R&W with the RF out, colors are brighter and prettier than the Grey Famicom.

To conclude: I prefer the Grey AV Famicom for its image sharpness without jailbars, but I prefer the first 1983 Famicom for its colors that are brighter and prettier (do not worry 80sFreak, I have understood that without desoldering the PPU and put the copper foil, it is impossible to get rid of jailbars, but I thought attenuate it with 0.1 uF capacitors, but impossible to do correctly, I have a system acquisition of images that is NTSC compatible, I'll try to post pictures very quickly to show you what it really is).

So I'll ask you a quick question: is it possible to "modify" the Grey Famicom to have lighter colors as the Famicom Red & White?

(sorry for my English...)

Short answer - yes

About jailbars - it's not only foil, it's all steps together.

Ok great. What should be done to lighten colors in Grey Famicom ? Desolder video pin from AV out port and put a resistance I guess?

80sFREAK

No need to touch PPU, just replace one resistor... ummm let me think about value...
