Haven't played this game much at all...and I've never heard anyone glorify it.

It's just an average racing game. It can get annoying in the later levels...

I just played the rom for a bit.  It plays nearly identically to Pole Position. 

The big difference is that Pole Position was more about knowing the track and how to take all the turns (that is, don't slide off the track, but don't go too slow, either).  F-1 Race seems to be more about dodging the opposing cars.  This game sets you up!  It knows when a tricky turn is coming and it puts a set of cars in front of you so you have to be in exactly the right spot not to crash.  The game does it on purpose -- it's the same cars every time!

I got to level 3 after about 10 tries, then called it quits.
