I recently bought a component cable for my Wii to replace the rather crappy output the standard composite gives to my HDTV, and man what a difference it really does make. Component really makes a world of difference in clarity. So I started to think: becides my Wii the only other system I really play a lot is my AV Famicom. What if I could have component video on my Famicom....? Is such a mod possible? If it is, where could I go abouts getting it done?

The only thing you can get from the Famicom/NES PPU is composite video. There's no way to get component video from it since the signals get mixed inside the PPU die. The nearest you can go is replacing the Fami PPU with a Playchoice 10 PPU which has RGB output, but then you get screwed up colors (different color palette).

this can be done the following way:

mod a famicom titler (normally comes s-video) to output componenet

interesting. Thoughts on that one 133MHz? I know you know a shitload about electronics so I'd like your input on kite's idea.

Well if you can get a Famicom Titler it's the best and easiest way.

Wow, I didn't know something like that existed.
A little research on google made me want a Famicom Titler. I WANT!!! :)

What exactly is a titler? Hitler with tits? now there's an image I'd rather not think about.

MarioMan1983

lol, I'll be laughing about that for awhile...
What is a so-called "Titler"? never heard of it.
Mario has a mustache therefore, he is a man.
Luigi has a somewhat smaller mustache, he is less of a man.
I have a bigger mustache than both of them.

It does two things: lets you play Famicom games, and lets you add subtitles to home movies. Don't ask for an explanation. No one fully understands this thing.

Wow that thing is pretty cool,  so I could send it over to some family of mine that speaks japanese and they could add subtitles to one of the japanese games for me?

They could take a video of a game and add subtitles to that video then. ;)

MarioMan1983

oh, I get it...
that would be pretty cool, being able to add subtitles to japanese games.

I fully understand it. Kris actually has one.

It's a famicom made by sharp. Titler isn't even a word I think but it's like titling something, like subtitles.

It plays famicom games with S-video output.

You can also hook up video equiptment to it to add subtitles. It comes with a touch pen so that you can write on a small touch pad on the device.

That's really all it does. Alot of titlers are missing the PPU because people take them out to component mod a normal famicom.

With touch pad you say?? :o!!
Now I want it even more.
I guess I need to check yahoo auctions more often.

They're expensive, even on YHJ. :( It'd be cool to have one to mess around with. I'm not much into modding, etc., so I don't know what use it would be to me.
