Modifying this existing cart pictured above would be the worst nightmare, in fact it's not even possible in any way. The game genie sort of adapter transceiving 3V-5V is the only way to go here

Of course it is possible and quite easy. All you have to do is:
1) Cut a line using sharp knife through the pads you want to modify (probably all pads if you are lazy)


2) Solder 100R 0603 resistors for all lines (except GND, +5V, /IRQ, CIRAM-A10, AUDIO) - those lines can be shorted.

Finally I made an adapter it is very ugly 
but actually even regular old  with chips work with it

Yes it works, I tested it with this cartrage on the picture 150 in 1, and one old multicard with big chips works as well

Awesome adapter FAMICOM_87! Would love one myself, but don't have the nerves to solder so many SMDs.

Thanks,  jpx72,   The hardest part was not soldering, but cutting the copper layer with sharp knife  
Actually the soldering of those SMD was a peace of cake . just pre-tin then put SMD with pincers, and with minimum solder heat first end, then other

I found a 120 in version and guess what ! Japanese Contra 1 is included and even translated in English !
