FUCK YEAH SEAKING!

Didn't read the whole story, but I think there's nothing to cry about here.
I'm glad we've got no new console generation around the corner. And I bet the publishers and developers are too. (New machines -> much much much higher budgets necessary)

I think (maybe) he was referring to how they were talking about in five years or so, there may not even be another console.  But if you were referring to how there won't be another console for awhile, then yeah, that's nothing to cry about.  Just lets us keep more money in our pockets.

no i was refering to the fact that the industry might die out in the next couple of years, im not concerned about new consoles at the moment

Would be great if they go on for at least five more years, these consoles tend to have very short life spans comparing to the older consoles like the NES and SNES. Why move at a faster pace when what you are doing is alright? Developers are just going to get pissed when they just learned to use the console's programming to the max just to find out they need to learn a new one? Blasphemy! I say go as long as you can 360, Wii, and PS3!

What do you mean by "the industry"?  You mean like, video games as a whole?  That's nowhere near what they were talking about.

Since im mostly a hardware collector, this is kind of a bummer to me, but theres not reason to cry. Youll get more games for your system instead of buying another $250+ machine.

I'm going to say that I am in the "This is a good thing" camp.

They have really reached the evolutionary point where they don't need to replace consoles that often, the "pay off" of a generation change just isn't worth as much as it was when for example the N64 replaced the Super Famicom.  There is no need to constantly re-invent the wheel when you can just update the existing consoles with add ons or whatever.

Mind you, I'm saying this as someone who has steadfastly avoided buying any of the current generation consoles. I'm strictly a "retro" gamer, mainly because I can't justify paying 50 bucks for a current gen game that I will get 20-40 hours enjoyment out of when I can buy an old one for 1 or 2 dollars and get the same.  And never mind the cost of the console.  In 5 or 6 years when used PS3s cost $20 each, then I'll upgrade.

I'm of the mind that a good game is a good game, regardless of what console it is for.  So long as they can still make good games for the current gen that people want to play, why mess with a good thing?
