Does anyone have this 72 -> 60 pin adapter and use it to play NES games on their Famicom? "NES to FC adapter"

This one seems to be the cheapest and most readily available, and seems to work on both the AV Famicom and the original Famicom (those are the only ones I have, so I've used it on those.). This is unlike the one listed on Stone Age Gamer which claims problems with various models of Famicom that aren't the original.

Anyways I was thinking, I and everyone here who owns one of these things could collaborate and make a compatibility list, and we could discuss issues we find with games in this thread, and this post up here could have a list below the main text here. I can't be the only one who has one of these things; using one with an AV Famicom is the perfect way to play (most) NES games. However, I don't have a full collection of NES games, just around 160, so I need help...I suppose this is such an obscure thing--playing NES games on a Famicom with this particular converter--that it might not be worth doing but I figure what the hell, there's no such thing as too much information. Anyways let me know your thoughts, and if everything's cool I'll start testing all my games and hopefully others will do the same. We could comment on incompatible games and have others try them out and have notes about it next to the game. This is assuming there's enough people with this device to do this...

So we could have the list here:

Cybernoid is a game with many problems for many people. Seeing as the internal structure is the same as any other cartridge it should function the same. Every NES game is compatible with these with the exception of MMC5 games (the MMC5 RAM interface lines are shorted, but this can be fixed very easily).

Well, I was waiting for a reply like this before I tested out all my games. I went and tested out Castlevania III and Laser Invasion, which are the two MMC5 games I have. Castlevania III doesn't start, and Laser Invasion kind of works but the graphics are wrong. So this seems to be true. As for Cybernoid, I was reading that it relies on how bus contention is resolved in order to function...so would this possibly mean that the AV Famicom I have is different in such a way that bus contention is resolved slightly differently on a Cybernoid cartridge from my NES-001? That would be interesting to know.

That particular converter you have requires a couple of fixes for compatiblity, as there are a couple pairs of pins which are connected together incorrectly. Fixing it just involves cutting the traces between the pins and rewiring them appropriately; I don't remember which pins though.

Pins 57 and 58 on the NES side (the only shorted ones) connect to 48 and 49 on the FC side, but flipped so the wires cross over.

Although the likelihood of someone owning a copy is pretty low, Nintendo World Championships 1990 can not be played on a Famicom (unless it's the AV Famicom). Why? The 2nd controller on an original Famicom doesn't have a Start button, which is the only way to start the game.

This is reason of great mother russia dendy! The start button allows you to play Nintendo world championships, unlike capitalist decadent Famicom!

There are third-party controllers that allow you to press start as the second player. ;)

P

The question is if the Nintendo World Championships 1990 reads the third-party controllers at all since it's made for NES.

I play Star Tropics 2 Zoda's Revenge and Lone Ranger via this adapter... Works perfectly.

I tried PAL Trojan and it behaves very badly :P The top menu is scrolling like a weirdo :P
