So what did everyone think of the Super Luigi Bros. news?

Also cool that Famicom remix 1 & 2 are packaged as a disc in Japan.

I for one am really looking forward to playing that - it's made me know that I'm getting a WiiU now - next chance my budget allows I'll get one.

As the Year of Luigi has now ended, I also wanted to share my recently made (simple) hack with you here, even if Nintendo beat me to it with something better... :mario:

Thank you, it's only a small and simple hack but as my first one it involved a bit of a learning curve, it wasn't as simple as I'd expect so heck knows how people manage to make those really complicated hacks.

I wanted to share it here first, but it actually got accepted on the Rom Hack Database quicker than I thought:

I'm surprised nobody made one like it sooner - what with all the other Year of Luigi hacks around.

Hopefully someone can make an exact replica of the recently announced official Nintendo version.

I really hope they make more NES remix games - I really like those kinds of crossovers.  I can't wait to play it.
Maybe they were inspired by SMB Crossover :)

satoshi_matrix

wait, there are TWO NES Remix games?

I don't own a WiiU and I haven't really been paying attention. If I bought a WiiU, those two games are definitely ones I'd want. So is the second one out in North America?

I don't think it's out just yet - getting a twin release on disc in Japan though which is nice to see.

I can't wait to get a WiiU now.  I see it like the Virtual Boy - expensive and niche, but a lot of fun.

Cool hack! Although it's a very simple hack, there IS a bit of a learning curve before you can do something like this. I'm actually not sure how to figure out what registers to change without looking at the disassembled source.
I finished it (with warping) on two players on my Everdrive just to see that everything was right and it was. It reminds me of the Dr Luigi hack which was also made (but not released) before the official Nintendo game with the same name was released.

The only complete hack I've done is Final Fantasy bug fixes for the Japanese version since none seemed to exist. I've not released it because I thought I was gonna play through it on my Everdrive to the end first to make sure nothing is broken. But it can hardly be called my hack because all I did was changing values in the registers with a hexeditor according to what they say in this thread: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/522595-final-fantasy/45575058

Surely that' an improvement hack, no?  There are a fair few hacks of Castlevania 2 that are just that - bug fixes and little bits.

Yes and there's a LOT of bugs in FF. I only fixed the ones that didn't mess with anything that's not exactly the same in the Japanese ROM, so there's a few less important bugs I never fixed. This also means that my patch should work with the English version as well.

Bugs I fixed:

Monk Armor Bug
A small bug that makes the game calculate the Monk's armor (absorb) parameter wrong after level up, but it gets fixed everytime you go to the equip screen. My patch fixes this problem though.

Magic Defence Bug
Magic Defence is a hidden parameter that all classes has which raises the chance to ward off magic. But in the game the fighter's magic defence goes up much faster than the mages', and the monk actually gets a lower growth rate for this parameter after class change. Since he doesn't get any benefits from class change this means that the class change is only bad for the monk. My patch changes so that he doesn't get worse after class change and also makes the mages better than the fighter at this parameter.

Heala Effectivity Bug
Heala (HEL2) works as it should if cast outside battle, but if cast in battle it's as strong as Raheala (HEL3). My patch fixes that.

Shape Bugs
The shape (LOCK) and shayra (LOK2) spells always misses due to a bug, and sharya also increases the targets evasion instead of decreasing it. My patch fixes all that.

Weapon Data Bugs
Weapons' elements doesn't have any effect due to a bug. And when calculating critical hits, the weapons index number is loaded instead of the weapon's critical hit bonus value. My patch fixes both of these problems.

Escaping bug
When escaping, the wrong variable is loaded so escaping isn't calculated as it's supposed to. My patch fixes this too.

Multiple Level-ups Bug
My patch fixes so you can gain more than one level at once without weird stuff happens.

Enemy Attack Bugs
A few bugs related to enemies' elements and magic are also fixed.

Status Attack Bug
My patch fixes so that you must hit an enemy to inflict status ailments on them with a weapon that can do that. Missing doesn't anymore.

Target-All Caster Bug
When an enemy casts magic that affects all his allies, he is not affected himself. My patch fixes that.

Waking Bug
Due to a bug, the enemy always wakes up after being put to sleep. My patch fixes this.

Invisible Girl
There's an invisible girl in Corneria castle, that you can talk to (if you know where she is). She even has a change in dialogue later in the game (if I remember correctly). She was fixed in the MSX version but she was removed entirely in most remakes I heard. My patch simply makes her visible again (the easiest way to check that the patch work is to go to Corneria in the beginning and check if she shows up or not).

Gaia Spring
The spring in the town Gaia is supposed to have some text when you press A on it. But they put a normal water tile there so it doesn't work. My patch fixes this.

There's a few more dialogue bugs that I'm gonna fix when I get to the point in the game where they show up. I have to check that the Japanese version has the same bugs first.

Then there's the intelligence parameter that's not used at all in the game. Fixing that would require a lot of reprogramming, and it's not clear how it's supposed to work in the first place so I'm not touching that.

Just dropped by this thread to say I'm still very excited to get a WiiU and play Super Luigi Bros.

...also, my hack made it onto Tiny Cartridge :D

I check TC every day pretty much so this was a nice surprise, glad some people liked it!
I can see from the RHDB page nearly 200 people downloaded the patch, so that's ncie to see.
