This is going to blow the sealed Stadium Events auction out of the water. Nice to see FeeBay doesn't get a dime of this  ;D

It's pretty awesome to see this stuff continue to be found.  Even if it's out of my price range, I like watching the auctions.  It just goes to show that you can never stop looking for the good stuff!

Absolutely amazing! Can you see the hands of the guy opening it shaking? ;D Damn! I want to find that in my grandpa's storage!
Interesting reading at Atariage's "official" thread. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/204249-10-17-2012-found-air-raid-with-original-box/

I really don't get it. The Atari 2600 had heaps of licensed and unlicensed games, some of them probably just as rare if not rarer, so why is this game worth such big money to people?

Even forgetting about the money, it's an old game that never saw mainstream release due to it being a crappy game, therefore it was never produced in large volumes. Big deal. I'm a collector too and I just don't see the appeal or mystique about items like this.

Apparently the current owners don't think it's all that special either or they wouldn't be auctioning it off, but they obviously know that some people really have nothing better to spend their money on. Sad.

Right, when kids in Africa starving...

IMO the keyword is "found" not "CIB bla-bla-bla".It's like fishing.
I don't buy, sell or trade at moment.
But my question is how hackers at that time were able to hack those games?(c)krzy

Frank_fjs

I found a button of an old shirt that no-one else in the world has, do you want to buy it from me for $30,000?

It's a 2600 game, a bad one at that, I find it perplexing that some people place such value in an item solely on its rarity. Maybe if it were a great game or designed by someone famous who died etc I could fathom an understanding, but liking something simply because there's not many of them around and paying $30,000 for it is plain stupidity. It's the same type of stupidity that retailers who create 'limited edition' Portal guns or trading cards rely on.

You know, the feeling of a -complete CIB database of Atari2600 games- collector when the only game missing in his collection is this one, is something indescribable. :)
(for those who didn't read, this is supposedly the only CIB in existence)

ulera

There is probably more, just likely sitting in abandoned warehouses that will never see the light of day.

I can definitely see Frank_fjs's point. I have a prototype of my own Atari 2600 game, and only one exists. Why does no one want to pay tens of thousands of dollars for it? Because it's absolute shit. Although the hype around this certain game is artificial, I can't help but feel happy for the owner.

Love that another one came out the woodwork as soon as this was listed :)

Yep, the precedent has been set. Now if anyone ever finds another copy of it in the future they're going to want +$10,000 for it. :)

Will be interesting to see what the one on eBay goes for, not long now till it ends.

Epic_Lotus

Well, the cart/box copy on eBay just went for ~$14k.  It jumped four thousand dollars in the last 2 minutes.  I honestly expected it to go a bit higher   ???

Yes and no. You can sell your prototype maybe even for a million, but... you are not Atari. At least you have to become famous as Woz, for example,

egg_sanwich

This all seems like bullshit to me. Think of how many complete Famicom, SFC, Virtual Boy, Neo Geo, Game Boy collections you could buy with $14k+

Maybe I'm just too young to care about Atari...
