For sure LOL local peeps can't afford $200 RGB PPU and you talking about $500 FPGA unit.

Uh, the aforementioned FPGA unit is just the development board, that's usually how most FPGA projects start out. I thought you would've known that by now but oh well. He plans to design a proper PCB for this project so I highly doubt it'll cost $500.

that makes me a good laugh. Your point belongs to a typical person who's never ever finished any self-reliant independent project with significant R&D cost and which's tryna to predetermine the cost of final product. For whom should the product be released? is it for greedy kids that can't get a right job (just to get 200$ PPU) but wanna play with the final product? They're so eligible, LOL
For whom? and who will fund R&D? If you be such a person who's making that product you'll face a lot of obstacles and need a lot of effort to accomplish the project (E.g.: high frequencies PCB designing with the special software that costs higher than your dad's car which can't be done properly without many years of experience and knowledge in that area. And many other things. Satisfying the end customer is the last and the lowest priority one which's always forgotten)

that is not yet another cool red/blue LED stupid kiddy AV mod shit with detailed step-by-step howto with pics. man, that is teh SERIOUS PROJECT. Don't pollute that bright thread by your greediness
