Is there a converter that allowed you to play Famicom games on a Super Famicom?
I thought I saw one a while back but my google searches have gotten me nowhere today.

Yes, it's called a Super 8 or Tristar.

There's a more recent similar adaptor called a RetroPort, but from what I've seen it's not even as good.

There's also this, which might be a little better considering the connector on it hasn't destroyed any of my games like the Super 8 did:

It also has the added benefit of working on the Retro Duo Portable, so you can play your Famicom carts on the go.

Note, both are SOCs and don't have 100% compatibility.

I've heard those aren't as good, they also can't play US SNES carts on a SFC in case you want that (useful for Europeans).  I have a MD equivalent and it scares me how tight a grip is has on the carts, so I really think this will be the same.  I've not had any trouble with the Tristar yet, what/how much damage did it do?

By the way that is the RetroPort, released under a Japanese distributor.  Same product.

I'm an advocate of the Super 8 as I think the compatibility is awesome, only shame is it didn't work with my Everdrive.  What games are confirmed to not work with it?  Your pin damage concerns me, I don't want to use it if its going to harm my Lickle or Akumajou Dracula!

Actually, the Fami port was fine - it ripped the board right out of a friend's SMB/DuckHunt NES cart, though.

I did actually have the Genesis equivalent at one point, too - no problems with the pin connector on that one. Maybe it's just a per-unit basis.

Possibly, they're likely cheaply made.  Not had any issues with my Super 8, but tested an undumped SMD proto with the RetroGen and it scared me how tight it was :S

I have the Game Joy FC and MD adaptors.

I wasn't really impressed by the MD one - mind you, running Megadrive games on a Super Famicom is quite a freaky idea. But it *kinda* works.
The FC adaptor works fine, I haven't tried any of my US games on it though, and you may need an adaptor (I do have one, I can run some tests if you want).

Oh by the way, I just received a GBA adaptor. Can't wait to try it out :)

Awesome you got the GBA adapter, heard it doesn't play gb or gbc..

Let us know on the GBA Adaptor!  Which one did you get?  Mine is on the way!!  It may not play GB or GBC carts, but I'm interested to see what it will run from a GBA flashcart...
