Is anybody else interested in the canceled SNES/SFC-CD add-on? Is it possible to revive it? It would take a lot of time, money and knowlesge about code, programming, graphics, audio, etc. to revive/(re)create the SNES/SFC-CD, but is it possible???

I'm not sure what you mean. I don't think there's any public technical details of how it was supposed to work. And even if you found a working prototype of it (if that even existed) and successfully made a replication of it, how would you use it? There's no games for it!

Ah yes, the specs were released recently, like a couple of days ago.  I don't think you'd want to try and build an actual working one though - that's an incredible R&D cost...

Interesting that the software was to be housed in a custom shell, with RAM extension as well.  Games wouldn't have looked that CD-like then, maybe like giant Mini Discs??

I meant create and develop one, and makes games for it. That would be incredibly time-consuming and expensive though.

It would, but there's nothing to stop folks creating SNES-hardware spec games.  You see more and more NES style indie games these days (Oniken) and even some great NES homebrew like Super Bat Puncher.  I would love to see more new NES games made in this way.  I don't care if they're for modern PCs, I'll take that over no new games at all!

So here's a thought - if I made a NES, or SNES style demo game for PC - would anyone play it?  If so I'll get started.

I find this thread quite encouraging, for a start:

People have done the same thing in 16-bit style as well.

Oh it's made public!

If you make a CD system for SNES with your own games you can come up with your own standard of course. Homebrew for SNES is not exactly flourishing though, so I don't see lots of CD based SNES homebrews that's exclusive to a home made CD adapter, popping up anytime soon.

LET why not, lots of people have Windows. Of course I definitely would play it. That Castlevania engine for Gamemaker looks good.

I was thinking about making exactly what Nintendo and Sony were going to make, but make the games open-source. I want the gaming community and homebrew dev teams to make the games.

VERY BASIC SUMMARY OF MY IDEA: A 16-bit CD-based gaming system add-on where anybody can develop games, put the ROMs on the Imternet, then people download the ROMs and burn them to CDs. They put the CD into the system, and play the game.

Also, my plan is just a basic draft. I don't know how to  disribute games, and I can't sell them, because me or the dev teams would have to constantly buy and burn discs and ship them to people. Plus a bunch of fake, offensive, (Super Nazi Bros.) and broken games can be made and sold or distributed to people who want legit games.

I don't know much about hardware, but from that nesdev thread it sounds like not enough technical details is revealed to replicate it exactly. I'm not even sure if a working prototype was ever completed.

I hope you realize that this is a huge project. If you really have the resources and technical expertise to pull it off, I suggest to talk with the guys at nesdev (or another place where such things are discussed). But I have to warn you that if you don't have anything concrete to show it might be very hard to make the technical people interested in something like this. And as I said, homebrews are not very numerous for Super Famicom. To make homebrewers interested in something like this, that not many people will have, is probably very hard.

This is just about ideas and speculation, but it MIGHT be possible to make the ideas reality. Might. At a Consumer Electronics Show, Sony showed off the 'Play Station', (not the 'Playstation' that we all know today.) which was a new system that could play SNES AND SNES-CD games. There were 200 prototypes created, and people obviously got their hands on some of them, because Play Station prototype controllers have been sold on eBay.

I'm all for theorizing about alterna . te histories and obscure media, but when games are being made for iOS like:

which is about a perfect replica of SNES gaming, recreating a non-existent platform is extreme.
