Just read this in the news:

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/atari-s-e-t-the-extraterrestrial-cartridges-found-in-landfill-1.2623006

I think that is pretty awesome, after 30 years to find some of them actually intact.  I wonder how many they`ll dig up.

It's really cool to see the legend proven true! The article says they found other Atari products too...wonder if there was anything interesting.

Yeah, I`m really curious about what other stuff they`ll find in there.  Everyone knows about the ET carts but I wonder if they dumped hardware in there too....and copies of Pac Man?

Yeah, it's kind of wild. I'm still not sure why Microsoft felt the need to have them exhumed, but apparently they're working on a documentary about the history of video gaming. And as far as things found in there, one of the photos I saw also had a sealed copy of Centipede (badly crushed, of course). I'm not sure how much they're going to bother to remove, seeing as how that's all bound to be over-produced junk anyway. But I'm guessing that first ET out of the landfill will become a collectors' item.

I am a big Nintendo fan! especially GameBoy, N64, SFC, GC. And of course Mario games
I collect SFC/N64 mainly. Some rare famicom stuff too. Also miscellaneous video game stuff.

Yeah, I imagine they`ll market them with some sort of certificate of authenticity or something.  Mind you, now that they have been discovered probably a lot of the mysterious aura around them will wear off and I doubt they will be worth much.  After all, they are basically just games that have been sitting in a dump for 30 years!

And nothing of value was dug up only curses that brought the gaming industry down.

I wonder if there were any Xbox 360 RRoD consoles buried too.

nerdynebraskan

That's a pretty good one, FRG. There's certainly a growing argument that we may be heading into another video game crash; there's certainly a lot of people who are losing interest in the current gen for one reason or another. One would hope that a company currently milking the industry could stand to learn something from (literally) digging up the mistakes of Atari, but it doesn't necessarily work that way.

I don't care for them to me this is less desirable than finding copies of a book that supposed to be pulped.  They are caked in infamy.  Best thing about it is the box/label artwork.

They fucked up the AVGN's set for his B-movie. Lol.
It's awesome that they found these things. Shittiest game ever, but still awesome that they were buried 30 years ago, and found. It's like treasure hunting - but for shit!

I mainly collect Gamecube (GCN) items. I collect other items too, but I'm focusing on my GCN collection currently.

I'm still very skeptical about the whole stuff.  :bomb:
Did they find millions of carts or just hundreds?
The story says millions of E.T. carts were buried.

To me, "they themselves"  ;D secretly buried some hundreds of carts there years ago to be unearthed years later with great mediatic exposition.
