The GameCube Adapter for Wii U only plays Super Smash Bros.

If you're a Wii U owner and were excited for this accessory then drop all of the excitement because Nintendo stated that it only works for Super Smash Bros. and that's it. Yeah, very disappointing because they had us believe it'd work for games on the Wii Mode and Wii U.

I've still got the Smash Bundle on pre-order and hope that Nintendo takes back this BS and makes the adapter work with Wii U games at least, because for Super Smash Bros. only that's almost pointless (except for the sake of hardcore Smashers and that it's wired so no lag between the controller and console).

So sad to see something with so much potential is being wasted like this. Classic Nintendo!

Can you just use a regular Wii adaptor that plugs into the Wiimote??

You're thinking about the other controllers which have the NGC design to it and they plug in to the Wiimote, these are wired and connect to the adapter.

So you can't use something that plugs directly into the wiimote?

You can but this specific adapter has slashed away all of the hype it had before Nintendo revealed it'd only play SSB.

It is still absolutely hilarious to me what is considered to be the best controller for Nintendo's party game button masher is a controller older than most call of duty fanboys.

You'd think this would be alarming to Nintendo, yet most games on their consoles still continue to use bizarre, non-traditional control schemes because "innovation" triumphs common sense.

I love the way nintendo used to be, back in the 90s and through the first part of the 2000's. but why is that they get a free pass with this kind of thing?

Imagine for the an Xbox One exclusive remake of Halo 1 Microsoft announced "and now you'll be able to use the original Xbox controllers with it if you buy this new dongle! it will be the best way of playing this game! Oh but you can't use the dongle to play anything but this one game. $40 please!"

The sad thing is that this will sell outrageously well ANYWAY.

The problem is that the console for the controller (Gamecube) almost bankrupted Nintendo while the consoles with non-traditional controllers (DS, Wii) was huge successes.

Now Wii U seems to be an exception to that. The adapter is only sold because Smash Bros fans will complain if they don't release one.

Mayflash makes an adapter that makes the cube controller work like a classic controller. I got one but haven't tried it yet.

People are now being sceptical as to if this really is true, I mean, who really trusts Nintendo of UK over NoJ, NoA or NoE? We've got to wait until Nintendo of Japan, Nintendo of America or Nintendo of Europe make a statement to know for sure if it actually only plays Smash Bros. (seems to be really odd to make a device to only play 1 game).

Anyway, I've been thinking and I might get the PDP Wii U Mario controller that plus to the Wiimote and I've got a "wired" Wiimote so it'll always stay active without ruining my gaming due to running out of charge.

I wouldn't mind them just making this the official controller for Wii U.  Gamecube controller is and always has been amazing.

tappybot, that's really naive.
Also, why wouldn't it work for Wii Mode on the Wii U? You could use it with the Nintendon't GC Loader.

Anyways, I have no issues with the actual Wii U controller, it's fine, I play Mario 3D world with it. I'd probably play a lot of games with the GCN controller though if I had the adapter.

Well, seeing that this is Nintendo of UK and not Nintendo of Japan/America/Europe it's possible that they were trying to cover up the real details so perhaps Nintendo is actually going to make the NGC adapter compatible with the Wii U games and Wii Mode too. I'd love to play Wii games with my NGC controller again but this time upscaled to 1080p or 720p (Brawl looked great on the Wii U).

I hope the Adapter will work on Wii U VC Game also

Hopefully it does.

Now that a rep from PDP confirmed me via email that their PDP Wii U controllers only have digital triggers I'm no longer interested in getting one.

At lease make it work with Mario Kart 8
