Turtle Tipping? Turtle Tapping?

So I was listening to an episode of the Famicom Dojo podcast, and a question came up: where did the name "turtle tipping" come from?

What they're referring to is the trick in SMB1 (and SMB2j / Lost Levels) where you can jump on a Koopa Troopa indefinitely and wrack up lots and lots of lives.  They made a video about it and called it "Turtle Tipping", since that's what seemed to be the most common name.  In the podcast, though, they both say they called it "Turtle Tapping" instead.

So, growing up, I didn't call it either of those things.  I think we just called it "infinite lives trick" or something generic like that, but I might be mis-remembering.

Since we have a pretty geographically diverse group here, I was wondering what everyone else used called this trick?  And do you remember where you first heard the name (in a magazine or whatever)?

My old friend and I called it "Turtle kicking", back when we both played NES a lot.
I'm from Canada, BTW.

EDIT: He called it "Koopa kicking". I called it "Turtle kicking".

I always thought "turtle tipping" was a reference to "cow tipping" as a joke for the Famicomdojo video.

I think we called it something simple like "hoppa på sköldpaddan" (jump on the turtle) or maybe "bounce on the turtle". We didn't talk about it a lot though, since it was too hard to pull off.

"Infinite Lives trick" here. I didn't know about it until a girl I knew came over and showed me how to do it (Not sure where she learned it).

She was pretty good at Kung Fu/Spartan X, too. Showing me floors 2 and 3 when I couldn't even finish the first stage!

Vinnk mentions something like that in the podcast (since the two of them are from Wisconsin), but only as a joke.  Sean said he researched the most common name (which is "Turtle Tipping", apparently) and ended up using that for the video in order to generate the most hits.

"hoppa på sköldpaddan"

I have no idea how to pronounce that, but I like it ;D

I have been playing Super Mario Bros. for about 10 years (one of my most played games) and I have still never done the 1up trick!!! Maybe not even in NES Remix either! It's so hard to stay balanced in midair that I keep falling off after 2 or 3 jumps.

If you have Super Mario Bros 2j you can practice on the very first level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW8rrU-9N0Q.
